I know this list project was a failure, but if A Christmas Tale would have somehow won it still feels like a great success

I would have been amazed if anything else had gotten the top spot

I was banking on one of the two popular Demy musicals or Repulsion, but glad to be wrong!

I also assumed it would be Repulsion or one of the Demys, but A Christmas Tale was definitely my favorite and highest ranking new-to-me film on my list—which I don't feel particularly compelled to share in full since it was a pitiable collection of half-remembered and begrudged slot-filling, but my top five were Les demoiselles de Rochefort, 8 Femmes, Un Flic, A Christmas Tale, and Time Regained.

I didn't actually remember Deneuve in I'm Going Home (that's Piccoli's film all the way) or Lines of Wellington (though I'm not surprised she's in there, as it's kind of a cinematic petition in support of Raul Ruiz by everybody who'd worked with him.) Repulsion is the only film there that I think relies on Deneuve for its greatness, though The Truth has probably the best Deneuve performance on the list, even though I'm doubtful it would even make a Top Ten Kore-Era Films list if I ever did one. I'm lukewarm on everything outside the top five - i.e. none of them would be in contention for their respective decades lists.

For the record, I didn't vote for a Deneuve list and only submitted one out of pity!

The Kore-eda has a good Deneuve perf, but I hope people interested in late-era Deneuve seek out In the Courtyard, an inconsistent movie where she really shines. I know there are a few fans of Salvadori here, simply based on love for En liberté, so that's one reason to see it right there even if it's nowhere near as good

As a whole, I’m mixed on it but it’s definitely worth checking out, and Deneuve’s perf is a key reason for that tilt towards recommendation

Decided to jump into the well if modern day Deneuve films again and was reminded of why I generally have stayed away with the pitifully lame All The Divides Us. Klifa’s drama is told incoherently so that the basic facts about its characters are obnoxiously enigmatic and we’re stuck with just big acting and nothing else. It’s the moody French equivalent to failed Oscar bait like that one Kunis drug movie from a few years ago that you probably forgot existed if you ever knew.

You've probably seen it already, but she's good in Kore-eda's The Truth (and I'm not any kind of Deneuve fan).

I still haven’t had the opportunity yet. It’s on the list though.

This timely bump reminds me that I still have a collection of unwatched Deneuve films, including a DVD set packaged inside a padded plushie slipcover, perhaps to allow the viewer to nap on it during the films

I guess I missed this one. Catherine Deneuve has always been one of my favorite contemporary actresses, even if the film she appears in is uninspired. She has become more play-by-numbers towards the end of her career seeming to be a work-for-work's sake (with 149 actress credits) but at the start of her careershe was fairly adventurous in her heyday.

Thanks, yes. I mixed up the titles from spending so much time on the year's titles (and it doesn't actually make as Radiance's is 2024& Criterion's is 2026).

I purchased that set around July/August this year to catch up with a few unseen Deneuve films. I had seen Hotel des Amerique & Le Choc decades ago with no desire to revisit either of them. Deneuve is hardly in Fort Saganne and I found it insufferable. La Sauvage was one of those 3rd rate French comedies that were very typical from the 70s. Manon 70 was easily the highlight of the set and I'd seriously consider purchasing a Blu Ray should some enterprising company release it.
