Hulu+ has one Jun Ichikawa film at present -- Kaisha monogari" Memories of You (literally Office Story, btw). An early Ichikawa film, and more focused on old folks than much of his work, but wonderful (if mostly low key -- as IS typical). A mid-level office worker is approaching retirement -- and decides he wants to put together an office-wide jazz group to perform with at his retirement party. Maybe if lots of people watch this, Criterion will snag a few more of Ichikawa's wonderful films. (Ironically, his only film to get US distribution, Tony Takitani, is one of his least appealing -- even though it is also good).

If I search iTunes for Criterion or Criterion collection, it only gives me one result for movies (Red from the 3 Colors Trilogy) and I can't click on the publisher or studio to see only their films. While I can find specific films that I search for, I'd like to see the whole collection available. If anyone knows what I'm missing here, thanks!
Actually, you could get the list from criterion.com.

This does not include titles that are exclusive to iTunes.

I quite liked Kaisha monogatari, a nice grab from the Shochiku library. Criterion getting access to more of the director's works I'm excited for, but it depends on rights. No-Life King would be an interesting film of his to add because it deals with Japan's first generation of console video game players. The recent Demy haul tells me they could be getting more active.

No Life King is one of the few Ichikawa films I have yet to track down in at least some form -- along with Zawa-zawa Shimokita-sawa.

There's a copy of it here, but I found the rip quality unwatchable.

Saeko Suzuki's soundtrack is excellent, however, as are her earlier '80s records with Keiichi Suzuki and Andy Partridge.

Gosho's Innocent Witch (1965), courtesy of Hulu+. I don't "love" many Gosho films, but I do find almost all of them interesting. This is one of his starkest films (about a young woman sold into prostitution, after her father is no longer to work), and quite visually impressive.

I just watched this! I haven't seen the DVD, but I can say that this looked phenomenal (certainly Blu-ray ready). Surprisingly, at least to me, it also sounded terrific; the dialogue was crisp and clear and Herrmann's score was literally booming at times. I hope this title sees an upgrade soon.

La Cienaga was included in Fandor's 'Criterion Picks' this week, so I'll be shocked if the film isn't uploaded to Hulu by Saturday.

The Fandor 'Criterion Picks' are what end up being featured each Friday on the Hulu Plus channel. Fandor's deal with Hulu gets these films a few days early.

This has now transpired.

It has, but unfortunately the film is set to expire in nine days.

so now we will have releases only for 10 days? that's odd.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (Ryan?), but that expiration date is just the amount of remaining days you can watch the film free, without a Hulu+ account. It'll still be there, you'll just need the account to see it.

Thinking of getting Hulu+, but I don't see an option for multiple profiles/queues as with Netflix. Is there such a feature that I'm missing?

Hulu chalks it up to their agreements with TV providers being much more strict than what Netflix has to put up with (since they don't have same or next-day TV stuff on their platform), but no, they do not have multiple profiles/queues, sadly.

It now seems a distinct possibility that the woman and the snow/blood are actually a single clue, rather than two distinct clues. That being said, the woman may be a dual clue.

There has been some speculation that Criterion has plans for Lady Snowblood and The Lone Wolf and Cub series based off a few phantom pages that popped up recently.

Hard Eight was just added to iTunes, in HD, with no indication of Criterion.

It's credited to Paramount. Last year they released Kingpin, which was also a Rysher Entertainment production, on Blu-Ray; previous DVD releases had been through MGM. So hopefully Paramount will either release it on Blu-Ray or license it to Criterion.

I just got an email alert from Hulu that La Cienaga is expiring from my queue on the 20th and I have Hulu Plus. Is the prevailing opinion that it'll still be available to Hulu Plus subscribers or is this a new precedent?
