Will the features be carried over? That Second Sight disc is stuffed to the brim with commentaries, interviews, etc. Really impressive.

Oh, totally understand the value issue there. I would not have purchased it had I not had a relative certainty that I can sell it 3-ish years from now if I need to. Still remembering fondly when I sold my limited Witness from Arrow for $100

Orbit has put up a preorder for an Amadeus 4K steelbook. granted it's a UK edition, so there is still a chance, but I think this mostly eliminates that (fairly unsubstantiated) rumor Criterion would be releasing it. I believe Citizen Kane remains the only title so far to get a UK release from WB and a US from Criterion

The theatrical cut in 4K. Is this the version people have been clamouring for for awhile now or was it the DC?

I believe the consensus is that the original theatrical cut is superior as the director's cut throws the pacing off and specifies character motivation that is better left ambiguous.Peacock wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 3:23 pm The theatrical cut in 4K. I am very surprised if such a consensus about the superiority of the theatrical cut indeed exists. My impression of the director's cut was overwhelmingly positive, to a degree that I never once wanted to revisit the theatrical cut after experiencing the extended version. The director's cut adds some wonderful nuances and does not throw the pacing off IMHO. The only issue for theatergoers could be the extended version's length, but for a home theater viewing, it is not a problem. When I saw a 35mm print at the Academy Museum a few months ago, the announcement that it was the original release version generated a huge applause!
I personally cannot stand the 2002 recut. It destroys some ambiguity between Salieri/Constance Mozart (the scene with them together is also very “flat”, as if there was t much coverage shot), and everything else is inconsequential. The original version is perfect as is

I prefer the theatrical cut but I do hope they include both, I am generally all for including all versions of films at the best quality possible, within reason. I may greatly prefer the theatrical cut of Picnic at Hanging Rock, Apocalypse Now, etc but I appreciate that the director's cuts are available in 4K in the same editions, even if I rarely, if ever, watch them. I do know an undertaking like restoring the TV cut of The Last Emperor (a movie I don't even like very much) would be a bigger project, so that's not always reasonable

I prefer the Theatrical Cut, but I did like some of the additions in the director's cut. I think I'm one of the only ones who liked the addition of the Constanze/Salieri private meeting, despite its off staging, because it pushed the conflict between him and God a bit more, since Salieri saw her showing up as another sign of God hating him. And the fact she threw herself at him makes it an even bigger "fuck you" to him.

February 25: Amadeus (Theatrical Cut) is coming on UHD from Warner. I thought this was going to be a Criterion release, but I suppose this leaves the possibility of the Director's Cut to come later.

Separate listings for individual 4K releases of Dirty Harry, Pale Rider, and The Outlaw Josey Wales have been found on Amazon France. Hopefully we see a listing for a 4K release of Where Eagles Dare soon.

All the President's Men is up for preorder at Gruv. No street date and finalized artwork yet. Fingers crossed Warner have their best people working on the encode so nothing gets in the way of Gordon Willis' superb cinematography.

Yes. Anderson produced the original extras himself, so his commentaries have appeared on all the releases.
