You thought the new Duals would be £9.99 off the bat?

Like I said, I saw them as a mere re-printing and nothing new so I presumed they'd be more competively priced - like the BFIs - than they are. This is your 4th release of Sunrise in how many years? I don't blame you for starting them at this price to enjoy the benefits of those who are happy to buy at release for a higher price. I'm happy to wait though.peerpee wrote:You thought the new Duals would be £9.99 off the bat?
You really have nothing better to do than just to jibe me all the time? Why are you so obsessed?mfunk9786 wrote:I'm starting to think that TMDaines just doesn't understand how anything works, period.
I'm answering your points because I think you're being a little unfair.TMDaines wrote:Like I said, I saw them as a mere re-printing and nothing new so I presumed they'd be more competively priced - like the BFIs - than they are. Not wanting to attack BFI by any means, but in regard to Dual Format reissues I think it's a bit early to assume their prices are going to be low. As almost all online retailers were selling off the BFI BDs at £5 a pop in preparation for their DVD/BD reissues I think it's safe to assume that were not going to see them re-entering at this price bracket. I'd be surprised if we see them for under £12.99 [unless some dual format reissues have slipped by without me noticing] and aren't these going to be merely re-prints (MichaelB gave that helpful rundown on what the differences were to be) too?TMDaines wrote:Like I said, I saw them as a mere re-printing and nothing new so I presumed they'd be more competively priced - like the BFIs - than they are.peerpee wrote:You thought the new Duals would be £9.99 off the bat?

Maybe I'm underestimating the amount of work needed. I just presumed the extra work, in comparison to a re-print, was a quick edit to the Blu-ray cover and then inserting the DVDs into the Blu-ray case.peerpee wrote:This Dual Format edition has happened purely because of the fire. It has required a new catalogue number, a new barcode, a new sleeve, and every element has had to be made from scratch in a new print run whose cost was not covered by insurance money (only lost copies were covered, a new print run obviously costs more).
But it's pointless to compare the markets for numerous reasons, not least because Amazon in France, Italy and Germany works off a different business model. Those branches of Amazon have no where near the reach that Amazon UK does for instance. Internet shopping is relatively non-existent in Germany and Italy for sure. America seems to be different again with more regular big sales or discount vouchers. We don't have this same "coupon" buying culture.tenia wrote:Just want to remind you the prices of single editions from Criterion, Kino, or much of the French distributors (I've seen 25€ single BDs, most of the time, it's around 20€, with sometimes only the movie, not any combo, or extras, or booklets).
Beyond The Revolution, for example, has been sitting well below that since release pretty much (http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/blu-ray/Befor ... 109630.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I haven't been following much of BFI's other stuff in fairness.bigP wrote:Not wanting to attack BFI by any means, but in regard to Dual Format reissues I think it's a bit early to assume their prices are going to be low. I could import CC Harakiri BR, but it's going to cost me much more that the MoC. Choice is easy, and I will go with MoC.TMDaines wrote:But it's pointless to compare the markets for numerous reasons, not least because Amazon in France, Italy and Germany works off a different business model. I've just seen that Akasen Chitai / Yokihi is sold out. Already having the three other Mizoguchi double features, I hope availability of MoC newsletter will be back soon, since I don't see myself having to buy the whole boxset just for one edition.Der Spieler wrote:Titles from this sale are getting sold out pretty fast!
Hey, how do I get CC BDs for around U$ 15? There are some (those MoC does not release) I would like to get (and sometimes get for much more) and would love to reach these prices. I thank you in advance for the tips.matrixschmatrix wrote:Speaking as an American, MoC prices are generally comparable to Criterions without factoring in the free DVD you get with a dual on MoC's side. In both cases, you can get them for the equivalent of about $15, and if you're impatient it costs more like $25. The difference is that getting those prices on Criterions takes all kinds of work and playing around with discounts and so forth, whereas getting them on an MoC just means waiting for MoC to offer it at that price- it feels much more straightforward to me.

There's no consistent way to get new $39.99 list price Criterions for $15-16 unless you have a Barnes & Noble membership and live in the US, so you can exploit in-store coupons and get free shipping online. During the biannual half-off Barnes & Noble sales, usually in July and November, if you use 15% off online coupons you can get the BD titles down to $17 + shipping without being a member. Occasionally Amazon and Deep Discount.com have spotlight deals in which they offer specific BDs for more than 50% off. Check the Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Deep Discount/DVD Planet and the Bona Fide Bargain threads on this site regularly for info on sales. I cannot speak to overseas shipping issues.matrixschmatrix wrote:In both cases, you can get them for the equivalent of about $15, and if you're impatient it costs more like $25. Oh of course, sorry for my lack of clarity. I meant in terms of blue cases against clear cases and general thickness, rather than in terms of spine number.jamie_atp wrote:I'd assume they would keep the Blu Ray spine numbers rather than the DVD ones considering which is the superior and newer format?
