Yeah, exactly. In a nutshell, subUrbia probably won't be coming to DVD anytime soon.

Speaking of, Linklater says
Slacker Blu is coming and leaves door open for
Before trilogy. Though it's kind of just more wishful thinking on his part.

Linklater did an AMA on Reddit today, and when asked about a Criterion release of the Before trilogy said:
Richard Linklater wrote:Yeah, I think there will be a box version in our future, I'm sure on Blu-ray. Not sure when.
Sounds like this is almost definitely happening, so now it's just a matter of how long we have to wait for it.

Does that rule out a fourth movie then? I think I recall reading that they are leaving the possibility open, but I doubt Linklater would endorse an "official" boxset if there were plans on it being obsolete in the future, albeit 9 years from now

I dunno, this could be sort of like Apted's 7 Up series, in which case waiting for it to be "done" would be futile.

I'm sure they can reissue it on Brain-D red ray in 2022, no?

the "up" series certainly does have an endpoint, the lives of the subjects...

Doesn't this thing happen all the time? "Complete Series" box sets come out for TV shows while they're still running, then another "Complete Series" box comes out the next season. Surely nobody thought "well, that's the end of
that franchise" when the last James Bond box set was released. Or the one before that. Or the one before that.
Plus, at the rate Linklater completes these films, I'm pretty sure any release'll be due for an upgrade / re-release when or if he gets around to releasing a fourth installment.

I think he was commenting more on having them released on bluray in general. I've seen more than one interview with him commenting how he wants them out on BR, whether it be CC or not. I hope it does end up on CC though.

I know nothing about the people making these claims:
1) A individual on the facebook wall is claiming they have a source inside Criterion and that The Devils will be a 2014 release.
2) Another individual over on the home theater forum who is claiming to have inside information says that Criterion is going to release a special edition of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

Of those two, the second seems more plausible than the first.

And the 4 hour version of The Loved One.
If Criterion is going to release another Warner Bros. title, hopefully Akira Kurosawa's Dreams was included in the deal.

Hey, if Vampyre and Tales of Hoffman can happen after a decade, who knows what the future holds. For what it's worth way back when Cousin, Cousine and Cocktail Molotov were announced and failed to show up after a year I emailed Mulvaney to ask him about them. The response was something like "Don't hold you're breath waiting for them".

Hulu just put up an announcement regarding a difference from their usual weekly updates.
"For 101 Days of Summer, we will be highlighting a new title every day, starting today and continuing through Labor Day; each film will remain free (with ads) to non Hulu Plus subscribers for forty-eight hours.
To kick off this exciting summer of cinema, we’ve chosen a Harold Lloyd classic: Harold Lloyd’s Speedy. This silent comedy, in which Lloyd plays a go-getter whose many jobs include cabdriver and soda jerk, is the only Oscar-nominated film in the slapstick icon’s oeuvre. It features some incredible on-location New York shooting (including a scene set at Coney Island and a car chase through the Washington Square Park arch) and a cameo by none other than Babe Ruth."
Does this suggest another possible Lloyd film coming out soon?

Are you laid up in bed with broken limbs or something, Jeff? If so, my condolences. If not, then where do I subscribe to your version of Criterion? And where's Out 1?

Pretty accurate list, all things considered. But just further reminder that it will take forever to get to all these things we know about. You're bored but now I'm depressed. We can only hope that it all goes down like this.
