I guess titling a theme "Starring Courtney Love" gives cover for not including Kurt & Courtney.
An "LGBTQ favorites" theme and a "Weddings" theme in the same month but no The Wedding Banquet?
...and perhaps the most glaring of all, "Alex Cox's Punk Provocations" without Sid & Nancy?

Did Criterion forget to mention that as part of their Bond program they also were able to include the “banned” commentaries from their first LD pressing?
I was pleasantly surprised to see them on the channel in the “Out of Print Criterion Editions” section last night. I had never heard them in full but can’t wait to check them out this upcoming weekend.

Okay, I'm really delighted to see The Prisoner in the July lineup. I'm very sure it's a coincidence, but I wrote their suggestion box not very long ago to say that The Prisoner might fit very well in the collection's growing lineup of limited TV series, especially since it seems to have been neglected on the US side in recent years.

I think it has popped up on a number of free streaming services in North America, including Kanopy and Hoopla

Ooh, I've been wanting to catch Married to the Mob again. Haven't seen it since 88, and I don't usually dig comedies too much, but I've got a lot of time for Jonathan Demme.
The complete series for The Prisoner is an interesting addition. This is now their second tv series? Neither this or the Wong Kar Wai are to my tastes, but I would not say no to more old and obscure tv material showing up.

Yeah, it turns up, but its pop culture footprint on this side of the pond has kind of disappeared, even compared to when I first discovered it. (In the late 80s/early 90s, CBS would show it in their late night slot, which is where I found it). What I was hoping for is a proper US 4k release in the collection, where they try to keep stuff in print for years. I know a couple of Criterion employees have said that they do note channel viewership when making disc decisions, so my hope is that this is a step in that direction. It's a landmark and it deserves that kind of treatment.

The rock biopic & southern gothic themes could have such a better selection, they look like a last second afterthought as they largely contain titles from the collection & others that have been on before. With both Cape Fears being added, maybe they'll be in the November announcement like Silence Of The Lambs this month. The Ringo Lam theme has been on the channel for a while but I don't think it was ever highlighted, but nothing new there. I was initially excited to see Duvivier being featured but it only has 11 titles of his 70, all from the 30s & 40s and many of which have been already featured on the channel or already released on disc (maybe we'll get an Eclipse upgrade in November too), so there's only 2 or 3 for me to catch up with. The James Baldwin theme also looks underwhelming. I am looking forward to finally catching Cactus Pears & Blue Heron though. Guess I'll have more time next month to catch up with purchases.

Wild at Heart is in two categories this month, so I feel confident it'll be a November announcement, though it's been on the Channel for a little while.

I'm not usually excited by shorts, but I'm looking forward to seeing the other two shorts by Neo Sora. I recently enjoyed both of his features, plus one of his shorts ("Chicken"). That short is on the Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy Blu-ray, and I quite liked it.

They don’t get much attention (on the lineup or elsewhere), but those W. Somerset Maugham anthology films are actually really good, and full of beloved British character actors. Very pleasant weekend afternoon viewing.

Completely forgot that I watched 2. Looking at my IMDb history, apparently I really liked Quartet (8) but found Enore a bit lacking (6). Trio is now in the cue.

It's definitely not the 4K restoration. It starts with the information about the HD (1080) restoration, however long ago that was. I don't have the DVD anymore to compare it to, but it looks fine: stable, balanced contrast, but with a lot of tonal fluctuations in the image and occasional dust, scratches, and warping.

I recall last August was, with the exception of the Sammo Hung titles, pretty meh. Which makes me I wonder if they've found viewership dips in the summer and program fewer titles as a result?
