Watching the Second Sight release of Heimat. I've got my player set to output 25fps (not convert it to 24fps) and the motion looks great. But there are "jaggies" visible on thin straight lines, which suggests to me that something isn't right. Is it a bad encoding or is it my system? Could someone else who has this release report back. Thanks.

I don't recall seeing any jaggies. Is it throughout?

Yes, it's not a major distraction. But it's certainly not ideal.

It is 1080i50, so perhaps your player or screen/projector is poorly handling the deinterlacing. I watched mine last year on my BenQ projector via an HTPC with MadVR and don't remember have any issues with jaggies.

What are you watching the discs on?

I saw the first two and thought they were surprisingly pretty good for what they were

The first, with ski trip teens who crash in an abandoned lodge only to run afoul of the survivalist baddie who dwells in the basement, is an above average slasher, with a fair attempt made at characterization and a slow burn towards the eventual reveal before it all comes barreling towards the wildly entertaining finale. The second film, picking up immediately after the first, wears its influences proudly-- hospital-set Halloween II and the take charge heroine-isms of Sigourney Weaver in Aliens-- and not coincidentally it's a much better film than either! Cold Prey II is super stylish, with a clear advance in budget, and some wicked jump scares, and a finale that takes a common sense approach to ending the series. Apparently there's already a contingent of horror fans who consider these among the best slashers ever, and while it's not like there's a whole lot of modern competition, they are at the very least in one of the higher tiers, especially as far as recent examples go!

I am not complaining, quite the opposite, but what's with the 2026 Norwegian wave? Did I miss something?

I am also a fan of these films. Cold Prey II is the best of the lot and the slasher sequel that Halloween II should have been. I never understood why they didn't do anything with Jamie Lee Curtis other than put her in an awful wig and make her crawl around a hospital whimpering when they could have made it a 'final girl' revenge movie like Cold Prey II.

This should be paired with its sequel, The Quake, which many fans of The Wave don't even seem to know about. Like Cold Prey II, it improves on the original, it's better directed and the action scenes are quite spectacular for a film with a budget that would just about cover the catering on a comparable Hollywood production. The director of The Quake followed that movie up with The Burning Sea, another disaster movie. While it's not a direct sequel to The Wave and The Quake, it would complete a Norwegian disaster trilogy box set.
