So what's up with A Gentle Woman, The Devil Probably, and Four Nights and a Dreamer? Are they going to released by New Yorker in the next decade or perhaps Criterion may have a hold on some of these? Anyone know anything.

A quick thought about the MGM/Fox deal - since MGM's catalogue includes the Cannon Films library, Cassavetes' Love Streams could be a possibility. I can't imagine MGM would be too bothered about it and I can't believe Criterion wouldn't spring for it if they had the chance.

the new deal between Fox and MGM might bring back some OOP Criterions...
Spinal Tap, Robocop, How To Get Ahead in Advertising, Straw Dogs, Sid and Nancy, Silence of the Lambs. Most of these are highly unlikely, however, as MGM has released SE DVD's of most of these and why would they want to sell less of their own discs. I think How To Get Ahead in Advertising, Straw Dogs and Sid and Nancy would be the most likely to make it back to the collection (especially HTGAinA)

Has anyone ever asked CC about Babenco's Pixote and Kiss of the Spider Woman? Why are these films not available on DVD? I know New Yorker issued in 2001 a pan & scan edition of Pixote, now OOP.

MGM's Stranger Than Paradise is now OOP -- perhaps this bodes well for a Criterion edition? I certainly hope so.....

It's been out-of-print for a while now. Perhaps Sony will release this???

I am pretty sure that Jarmusch owns the rights to all (or most) of his films (one of the upsides to making films with very little money). Therefore he could, conceivably, have anyone release them... I hope for a Criterion release (and they've been in contact with him recently as he has apparently done an interview for an Ozu film...)

Also Criterion did release Stranger Than Paradise on laserdisc some years ago so this might increase the chances of a Criterion dvd release...

seems like a lot of mgm/ua dvds are turning up on sony pictures discs (ie platoon, some like it hot, the apartment which are to come out soon)

this is undoubtedly left over from the MGM deal with Sony... but MGM decided to change their partnership and went with FOX instead (because they release more DVD's than Sony, and they license their films out to specialists like Criterion)

How about this for October's slate? Pure speculation...

Anytime October rolls around, I always look forward to the release of Eisenstein's October. I doubt Mouchette. Typically it takes a while to transition from Rialto to Criterion.

Plus - and correct me if I'm wrong - doesn't the Pierrot speculation stem from a rumor that Rialto is distributing it sometime soon? If so, it seems very unlikely that a CC DVD will come until after Rialto's toured it.

Well most likely we will get more Malle films next year. They already released four this year, I doubt they will release that many next year, but they could at least release like two or three. Perhaps Phantom India, Les Amants, and May Fools.
