I wonder what the Cardinale masterpiece could be. Is a The Leopard UHD remotely possible?

I was thinking the recently restored Four Nights of a Dreamer might be announced today, but I melted in my seat when I saw the Olmis. Since L'Amour fou, Radiance has been doing precisely what I wished: Upgrading the Janus films that Criterion clearly will not release on Blu. I'm excited.

I haven't seen the clues yet, but if Dostoevsky is teased, why not both? Radiance has been mid-2000s Criterion the last two months—they might as well use double clues now! I don't doubt Simeoni's love of Italian film, perhaps Visconti, and definitely Mastroianni!

Highly plausible, especially since the previous Blu ray release was widely criticized for the excessive blue filter, even by those who are more tolerant of “restorations” of this type. Fixing that alone would give everyone who already had a copy incentive to upgrade

The Palme d’Or winner could probably be Pietro Germi’s The Birds, the Bees, and the Italians since we know that they’ve already released a Germi title.

It's not Four Nights of a Dreamer - Fran shot that one down months ago and I strongly suspect Criterion have it for both territories.

It could still be the Visconti adaptation of White Nights or even the Vecchiali, White Nights on the Pier - I've suggested it on the Discord a few times. Or both - there are apparently more double bills on the way in 2025.

I wonder if the Palme D'or winner could be Imamura's The Eel - the longer (Directors?) cut has never had a release here (think it came out on R4 in Australia) and would fit within the Radiance oeuvre. It's also one of the few winners of the last 40 years or so to not have been released on Blu in the UK

Have they released films as recent as this?

The have released Trenque Lauquen, She Dies Tomorrow, Suzhou River, and Visible Secret, all of which were released after The Eel.

I could see the Palme D'or title being When Father Was Away on Business, Man of Iron, or Chronicle of the Years of Fire.

Yes, as pointed out by someone on BR.com, I didn't realise at first as I hadn't read the specs. That said, the film might be with Gaumont in France and therefore licensed through them (and perhaps StudioCanal are just credited with restoring it). We'll have to wait and see, I suppose...

If true, lots of possibilities. Not least Fulci's A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin...

I immediately thought of Four Nights of a Dreamer, especially as it has had a couple of festival screenings lately. I suggested the Visconti film on this thread last year, alongside the Bresson, so maybe they might consider a double-bill release (as has also just been teased). Unfortunately it seems Bresson's Une femme douce is with Paramount, and there seems to be no movement on that front.

I reckon it's likely to be something like this. Comencini's Bebo's Girl has also been restored, and Radiance have been keen on Comencini (Misunderstood, The Sunday Woman).

In fact, the 'purring' clue could be for Comencini's Il gatto (The Cat)! Maybe this was a teaser for a second Commedia all’italiana set?

Someone on BR.com recently admitted Rouge was coming from a label that wasn't Eureka, so I did immediately think Radiance (if not, then 88 Films have been releasing some good tasteful HK titles). Perhaps Centre Stage will follow, and maybe Nomad too but since Eureka just announced a Patrick Tam title (The Sword), I'm inclined to think they could have got that as well.

Most of those covers have been announced already, with one of them I'm not familiar with (fifth one down). Here are the covers in order, from top to bottom: Underworld Beauty, The Story of Adele H, Dogra Magra, Tattooed Life, [unknown], L'amour fou, Weak Spot, Il posto + I fidanzati, The Landlord, A Man on His Knees, Japan Organised Crime Boss, Yokohama BJ Blues.

Looks like the unknown title is a foreign language bank heist film, and my guess would be either Italian or French (potentially 1970s). And if the cover is anything to go by, the film is in colour. Any guesses?

I immediately though The Eel too, but I'd take Man of Iron as well (surprised Second Run didn't do it for their Wajda box). Might have suggested Un homme et une femme too, but I think Warner Bros own it.

Of course The Mattei Affair would be great but last we heard they couldn't secure the rights, despite trying for years...would be great if that had changed!

Would love some more Resnais on Blu-ray over here, particularly that one! Kino obviously released it previously, but it did get another edition in France quite recently. Maybe they can improve on it, and add fresh extras. Does seem like the kind of film Radiance might go for.

My guesses would be either Georgiy Daneliya's Kin-dza-dza! (through Mosfilm), or Nacho Vigalondo's Timecrimes (mentioned in the blurb for The Dead Mother).

Since people have mentioned some Patrick Tam titles -- what's the deal with Love Massacre? There are vhs and laserdisc rips floating around out there, but is the lack of a dvd/blu-ray release due to rights, elements, or both?

I would love to see Yol, at last, if we're talking Palme d'or winners.

Re HK classics: on top of the two that yolos already mentioned, I'm also hoping for Comrades A Love Story (or is that with the weird hotel chain keeping other classics hostage to exorbitant demands too?) or a Radiance edition of My Heart Is That Eternal Rose.

If the "American crime film by a celebrated auteur" turns out to be The Funeral by Abel Ferrera, I'll do a happy dance.

French extremity makes me think of Noe's I Stand Alone. The 70s horror classic might be Let's Scare Jessica to Death.

Some additional guesses:
Slow Cinema Masterpiece might be The Man Who Sleeps.
Animation could possibly be represented by The Tale of the Fox.
And for the Sight and Sound 2022 film I’m choosing to believe it could be The Quince Tree Sun mainly because it hasn’t had any proper release an English friendly DVD and would probably be get a very good Radiance release.

Comrades is with Golden Harvest so it has the chance of either being a Criterion or 88 Films release but probably not a Radiance one.
