So now we can hope for that Criterion Laloux box on UHD (as Fantastic Planet & The Time Masters restorations were never individually released)?

Criterion could do to issue some more Terence Davies. He’s surprisingly underrepresented in Criterion, though with one stunning film — The Long Day Closes (which I mistakenly thought Janus already had).

and it's a 2k restoration still on a dual disc (blu & dvd) edition. For some reason I thought it had gone OOP. Did Davies get 4k restos? There's no info in those blurbs. Maybe another UHD or combo box set is in the works...or (more likely) just more wishful thinking.

The three films of the Trilogy were all shot on 16mm. The Long Day Closes was shot on 35mm and would look stunning in a new restoration.

Not sure whether there are new scans of the Trilogy. The 2014 BFI DVD booklet states: The Terence Davies Trilogy was remastered in HiDef using the new restoration 16mm film negative materials.

The trilogy looks horrendous on the Channel and could really use a new scan. The old BFI DVD is a bit better, but would love to see these on Blu-ray.

According to the press notes from American Cinematheque for their annual Bleak Week series, Janus has the rights to the new 4K restoration of Bo Widerberg's THE SERPENT’S WAY. They will also be screening the 4K restorations for Oshima's BOY and Saura's THE HUNT.

DYNAMIC:01
Medea
The Gospel According to Matthew
Porcile

I wonder if Criterion will release "DYNAMIC:01" as an individual release or if they'll put more of Lynch's short films in there, and I'm curious if they'll be more comprehensive and include some of his earliest and latest stuff on it or if they'll stick to the mid-00's.

Or it could show up as a supplement on a Wild At Heart or The Straight Story release.

I really, really wish for a Complete Lynch Films and TV UHD Box Set.
Criterion pretty much owned or licensed most of them except Dune (Universal), The Straight Story (Disney), and Twin Peaks (Paramount).

I could see Pauline at the Beach being picked up since the Kino release has been OOP for a while now.

They have that one too.

Wow, I'm really out of touch with what's going on. The screencaps on the Janus page look to be from a new restoration (and quite better looking compared to the previous KL release):

It appears that they are grabbing the rights for the Comedies and Proverbs series but I doubt they will be able to release The Aviator's Wife since Metrograph/KL released a blu years ago.

I wonder if Criterion will just keep the 2008 blu-ray as is and then release Gomorrah: New Cut (2020) 4k resto as a UHD.
The version on the channel is the new cut (125 min.) & not the 2008 137 minute version (I wasn't aware they had already made the switch).
I doubt they will get the tv series any time soon as Kino released the last season in 2022, but it would be a nice addition to Criterion's tv series collection & great addition to the channel.

I'd also love to see Janus/Criterion also get the director's cut of The Great Beauty, don't think that's seen any screenings in the US yet and it's also a few years old. Hopefully that also makes it to the UHD upgrade.

This would make a beautiful 4k release

I think those Janus caps might be identical to the Arrow release. The Full Moon caps look different though, possibly either a new restoration or grade:

Skin tones aren't as pink as the Arrow, and the colors are overall more balanced than the somewhat sickly gray Potemkine.

Interestingly, the Janus page claims that they're using the 2020 125 min. director's cut, but lists the runtime as the 2008 137 min. theatrical cut.

And the version on the channel ends at 2:05 but states copyright 2008 at the very end.

I'm guessing Criterion is just playing the long game so that when Metrograph's license on the Rohmers expire, they'll be able to jump on a C&P box, similar to the 4S box. Pay attention to the licenses for the other Rohmers, and if Janus gets its hands on them too, as I wouldn't be surprised if they try to release a Complete Rohmer at that point.
