Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles’ Bacurau, which is debuting today in Cannes. Looks like quite a departure from Mendonça Filho’s previous efforts...

WB made a
Banana Splits revival... and it’s an R-rated horror movie.
No, really

Makes a sense given the popularity of Five Nights.

I hope it is OK to cross post both in the upcoming trailers and video game threads, because it seems to be relevant to both: the Taiwanese horror game set in the period of the
White Terror (the same period of martial law depicted in Hou Hsiao-hsien's A City of Sadness),
Detention is getting a
live action film adaptation.
It is going to be the first feature by John Hsu, who has done a number of shorts, in particular directing the great short film from 2008
Intoxicant about a real life visualisation of an internet forum coming under a cyberattack (complete with 24-style countdown clock!). That short is probably the other best visualisation of the online space on film along with All About Lily Chou-Chou, and in its literalisation of the online into a real world space anticipates Hideo Nakata's Chatroom film by a couple of years!
(This also all comes after the game developer's follow up to Detention, Devotion,
was pulled from Steam after apparently containing some art mocking Chinese President Xi Jinping)

Disney’s live-action Mulan remake. They seem to be going for a Wuxia vibe.

It's worth noting that this is directed by Kasi Lemmons. While I can't speak to this film's quality, I certainly recommend
Eve's Bayou as one of the 90s' forgotten, sweaty noirs.

Chris Morris’ new film The Day Shall Come
I found Four Lions a step down from his obviously incredible television work, but quite enjoyable. This one just looks bizarre.
