Soderbergh overrated...um...says Trump.

This is probably heresy for some here but I'm very fond of Soderbergh's interpretation of "Solaris" and have often wondered if, given Criterion's interest in the director and the longstanding Tarkovsky in the collection it might fit in somehow, some day. If I were to get carried away, I'd imagine a box set with both versions and the book.

Solaris - especially a possible extended version that's been bandied about from time to time - would be a marvelous choice. I'd hope they could port over the Soderbergh/Cameron commentary that's one of my gold standards.

I'd love it. I think it is a great film. Although, despite the derision Twilight Time often gets around here, I'd actually appreciate seeing them release it because of the isolated score they'd include. I think it's one of Cliff Martinez's best.

Would be even better if Criterion got Martinez to record a commentary track around the score like he did for Traffic.

Marc Walkow confirmed on twitter that Criterion has Juzo Itami's entire catalog. (I think this was obvious, but it is nice to have confirmation.)

Can we expect the Lino Brocka movies at some point in the near future?

Vincent Ward's spectacular Map of the Human Heart is a Miramax title that's crying out for a Criterion rescue.

Maybe we'll get another release before the end of the year. My best guess: a Taxing Woman/Taxing Woman Returns duel-feature set.

Going back to Miramax for a sec, how about Nicole Holofcener's Walking and Talking? Another female director for the collection, possible room for some interesting extras, and even the cheapie Echo Bridge DVD is OOP & sealed copies are going for ridiculous prices on Amazon Marketplace.

Going back to the Umbrellas conversation, I actually bought a used copy from an eBay seller who was breaking up their Demy set. Happy to see it released as standalone.

The Long Voyage Home is currently on TCM. It opened with a Janus logo, which we knew. The good news is it looks great. Which suggests it could be coming soon.

On Bluray.com the other day, I found a listing for a Sixteen Candles Criterion edition. I decided to do some extra sleuthing by searching all the listings for the Criterion studio, by recently added, and found a large number of films not yet in the collection, and some that may be getting upgrades. Going back to look again this evening, I found most of them had been deleted. I don't know how much validity these may have, but many were already expected. Anybody can add releases to Blu-ray.com database, moderators who accept the submissions rarely check if they are correct. In fact, most of these were probably added by a moderator (iScottie) purely based on rumours and speculation.

The fact that most of them have been deleted says practically as much as them being added in the first place. Some we know for sure are coming. Others will never get a spine number. Nights of Cabiria is StudioCanal, so is not forthcoming until there's evidence that SC titles are back in play. I Was a Teenage Zombie will likely remain a streaming curio.

The Wedding March was getting talked about a decade ago. I would love so much to have it though.

Also starting to feel vaguely hopeless about a repress of the Von Sternberg box.

Is there any possibility of having "L'Innnocente" and "Vaghe Stelle Dell'Orsa" in the collection?
"Vaghe stell dell'Orsa" (aka Sandra) was restored in 4K at Sony Pictures in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna and The Film Foundation back in 2013
Recently "L'Innocente" will be released in BluRay in UK by CultFilms

I will love to have more Visconti in High Definition for the "A" Zone market

Is there any reason to believe that Criterion will ever put all its Jarmusch films in a box set? I know a Jarmusch box exists in some European form, but since I'm a region A only guy those things usually just slip my mind.

We're still waiting on many Fellini updates. And the Ship Sails On in particular is one of the very worst Criterion DVD's ever issued.
