A nice
picture tribute to Randolph from Glenn Kenny's blog.

Charles "Bud" Tingwell
Although he died on 15 May, I'm not sure if the British press has run any obituaries yet. There seems to be some uncertainty over his age. Most sources I've seen give his birth year as 1923 (making him 86), but the IMDB has 1917.
He was one of those actors who seems to have been around for ever, and even late in life he gives good value in small character roles. One of those is in Ann Turner's
Irresistible, which I'm just completing a review of, and which also happens to be on BBC1 TV tomorrow night. He can be seen in a lead role in Paul Cox's
Innocence.

An interesting career and some appearances in interesting Australian films as well as The Castle - Malcolm, Bruce Beresford's Puberty Blues and Breaker Morant, The Wog Boy (this seems to turn up on the BBC pretty often so I'll have to watch out for him next time) and The Dish. Nice to know that among his TV series he was apparently in an episode of Round The Twist - I used to love getting back from school to see that show (and sing along with the catchy/kitschy theme tune!)
It seems as if he had a good relationship with Gerry Anderson considering his voice acting in many different shows from Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet up to the live action UFO. I also noted from the
imdb listing that he had what looks to be good sized supporting roles in Dracula - Prince of Darkness, The Shiralee, Cone of Silence (with Peter Cushing and Andre Morell!) and The Desert Rats!

Gerry Anderson seemed to like his Aussies - Ray Barrett (a few years younger than Tingwell and still alive) was another one he made use of.

this which I found rummaging through Youtube a few weeks ago.

What a shame. Never imagined that Carradine would actually take his own life.
This sounds suspicious:
Thai police told the BBC the 72-year-old was found by a hotel maid sitting in a wardrobe with a cord around his neck and other parts of his body.
Edit
update:
He was discovered yesterday by a chambermaid hanging naked in a wardrobe with a cord around his neck and genitals.

Somehow, after reading
this article posted by Jeff in the Hal Ashby thread some months ago, I'm not so surprised to hear this; it doesn't seem like Carradine was in such a good place even then.

Pretty much my exact reaction. Can't say I'm too surprised after that doozy

Poor luck for him. Such a talented person going to waste. That story above is insane though.

Rumor going around is that the great Kung Fu master's death was accidental. Reports are saying that he died of auto-erotic asphyxiation. According to some reports police found him hanged by his neck and his penis.

It certainly sounds like he was searching for la petite mort based on the description of the way he was discovered.

Honestly, shit like that is too dangerous for people to be doing alone in a closet. If you accidently compress the carotid artery while trying to close your windpipe you'll pass out in seconds (really, two to three), and with a rope around your neck your body is just going to sag and add to the constriction and you'll die. Seems like a pretty unnecessary risk to take for an orgasm.

A curious coincidence that another actor with connections to Bruce Lee died on the same day as Carradine:
Shih Kien, Mr Han in
Enter the Dragon. He was 96 and no ropes were involved.
