just that we knew it was coming for years, and I took to putting it in my monthly predictions every time until it was finally announced because I was so looking forward to it. not like I have an in or know the first thing about what comes when.

Oh, I see. Well, after this month, I will set Emigrants/New Land as my default, too. (My "Wild Card" pick.) :)

Yeah, you probably don't have an in. You just practice in the occult, right? 8-[

Didn't we have a wacky animal hippo clue for this years ago, or did I hallucinate that?

People with the occult can't have ins! (Well, except with those who are also with the occult... Is Jon Mulvaney with the occult? 8-[ )

Dom, you've just added to my paranoia!

A hippo did indeed tease the earlier Rossellini set. Shortly before the release though, they decided to hang on to Augustine and Socrates while they tried to determine who held the rights to Apostles in order to do a volume two set later. Don't know if there's been any progress on that front.

Criterion Cast is tweeting hints at Secret Sunshine and what I assume is a Koreyoshi Kurahara Eclipse set (definitely including Intimidation).

I hope the Kurahara set is true. I've read plenty about his work and especially Black Sun which I've wanted to see for such a long time, but I could never find a copy. For it's time, having a film about homosexuality and war was pretty revolutionary and one of the important sparks of exploring different ideas of sexuality during the Japanese New Wave that you would later see in the films of Oshima, Shinoda and Hani.

EDIT: Goddamnit! I meant Black Snow. I get the two confused! That's a film I'll never see.

Oh, man, the other hinted releases are cool and all, but the Killing (along with City Lights) is the one we know is coming that I've been having the hardest time waiting for. If it's as good a package as Paths of Glory was, I'll be delighted.

Also, Criterion just said they think August will be "one of our strongest months yet."

The Complete Jean Vigo is there too. Spine 578 on DVD & Blu, but the "learn more" link and artwork are dead at the moment.

Upgrades for If.. and Battle of Algiers, Blus of Cul de Sac, The Killing and Orpheus + Kurohara on Eclipse.

Tremendously pleased about the Polanski and Kubrick and intrigued about the new Eclipse set but disappointed that we have to wait still for the Yang.

The front page says Lee Chang-Dong, but the title (Secret Sunshine, I'm guessing) is not up yet.

I thought I'd be able to save myself some money this month but the Kurahara set and Vigo in HD are just too tempting
