Thanks for that RossyG. Looks like you'll have to be persistant with making the sale though. I've not had a lot of luck getting access to the checkout page in the last 15 minutes.

Might I ask which MOC or BFI's you found for that price? I can't find any MOC or BFI for less than MSRP. It seems as though pre-orders are the only things discounted only slightly. Am I doing something wrong or did HMV pull a Deep Discount and raise the prices in anticipation of a sale?

His sentence implies that it's the MoC pre-orders that he is in fact talking about. That's what the bargain is. HMV's been pushing competitively priced pre-orders as their new strategy for a while now.

Picked up pre-orders of Cleopatra & Rumble Fish steelbook for under £15 each and The Trial & Oedipus Rex for pretty good prices too. It's probably worth noting that HMV have mis-labeled The Belly of an Architect as a DVD so the promotional code won't work on this.

I've found that when this happens, the best thing to do is switch off the browser and start again. It'll remember the contents of the basket.

Yes, I was caught out by this. Ah well, mustn't grumble.

For those in the U.S. interested in the sale, it's not really worth it since HMV charges £4.50 per item(!) for shipping.

There are a few copies of Michael down to 35 GBP on Amazon.co.uk, about $55

Could anyone in the UK buy this for me? I could paypal you the money immediately. Amazon is saying that it won't let me buy it, I assume because you can't buy third party from the UK?

You can only buy third-party internationally if the seller has opted for international shipping. You can tell this if the listing says "International & domestic delivery rates" as opposed to just "Domestic delivery rates."

Sometimes International means only shipping to Europe, not every seller ships to the States.

6.95 at Zavvi now. Also at Zavvi:

Schloss Vogelod £6.95 - http://www.zavvi.com/dvd/schloss-vogel- ... 32782.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A Man Vanishes £6.95 - http://www.zavvi.com/dvd/a-man-vanishes ... 31735.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Iron Horse £6.95 - http://www.zavvi.com/dvd/the-iron-horse ... 31742.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Easily the cheapest I've seen them. Some older ones at that price too (I saw Alone on the Pacific, Le grand jeu, Police, Kokoro)

on the downside, Zavvi tends to be v.slow at delivering.

Are the new offers up for July? Or is what's on there what is going to be on there for the foreseeable future?

I'm a little puzzled by the fact that newer releases are less expensive than the dual formats for older titles. Regardless, I ordered the Metropolis Blu (I abandoned my steelbook in a moment of eBay weakness [$$$]) and Ruggles of Red Gap, and I can't wait to receive them.

It's the same on a lot of e-stores. Prices are dynamic and go up and down, and don't just bottom out.

I'm not expecting a bulk reduction in price because I realize that these are a premium product, but I am just surprised that I can preorder a dual format or limited title for less money than I can buy an older one for.

It's to get folk to pre-order. Otherwise they're sat around in warehouses for years, costing a fortune in storage. When a new title is pressed, a number of thousands are manufactured. Once the pre-orders are sent out, there are considerably fewer to store, they sell much less strongly from then on, but last for years.

I suppose it also makes sense from the consumer's perspective in that a pre-order is more of a "risk" purchase, since the product has not yet been extensively reviewed, or since in many cases you haven't had a chance to see the film yet, or word of mouth has not had a chance to spread. So they lower the price to entice you to overcome these obstacles. (Though granted, there's much less risk when you're dealing with someone of the caliber of MoC.) Frankly, I wish more companies would do this. Especially if you live in the U.S., it's pretty much a no-brainer to pre-order everything direct from Eureka.
