That certainly wasn’t what I was expecting from that title (or from that description!) This guy’s one of the few big-time Romanian New Wave directors I haven’t encountered; anyone reckon this fits the vibe of his earlier work at all?

I've only seen I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians, but I liked that one a lot (and certainly this new trailer resembles it more than a little)

You can get a most extensive sample of him from his excellent COVID short from last year, Fable.

Following their revitalising of a classic property with Shin Godzilla back in 2016, Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi are teaming up again to work on another venerable property. This time rather than co-directing Higuchi is solo directing and Anno has written the script for Shin Ultraman, the first teaser trailer for which has just been released. I must confess to knowing even less about Ultraman than I did about Godzilla, but fingers crossed that they bring bureaucratic satire themes into it again!

I was discussing this with a friend earlier - has Tony Leung ever appeared in an English-language film? I scanned his IMDB and nothing jumped out at me, but there's people on this forum with far more knowledge that could correct me.

Wasn't 1992's The Lover partially in English? I can't recall though if he spoke English in it. It's been so long since I've seen the film.

Yes, some of the dialogue is in English. it's been a long time for me as well (although it had a recent restoration, and I want to rewatch it), but I believe he does have a few lines in English.

But they are two different people.

Tony Leung in Shang-Chi = Tony Leung Chiu-wai / 梁朝偉 of A City of Sadness (1989), Hard Boiled (1992), In the Mood for Love (2000), etc.

Tony Leung in The Lover = Tony Leung Ka-fai / 梁家輝 of Prison on Fire (1987), New Dragon Gate Inn (1992), Election (2005), etc.

...are they really just doing Bobcat Goldthwait's World's Greatest Dad as a feel-good tearjerker?

Well, Broadway already turned American Beauty into a musical (Next to Normal) as well.

Chboskey's career trajectory reminds me of Peter Hedges'. A halfway decent novelist who became an unbearable filmmaker.

That's more or less the spine of Dear Evan Hansen, which was a huge hit. The reason Ben Platt is the star of this is because he originated the role, and I was wondering how it would translate to the screen. Clearly casting him again was a mistake.
