Well Tango is included in their first (?) volume of Polish Animation so maybe the rest of his films will get released in a second set if the first volume sells well enough.

Haneke set shipped from Umbrella. Had a blip of buyers remorse as I remembered that the UK set will have the US version of Funny Games, but I already own the Artificial Eye Blu-ray of that one and I doubt the transfer will be measurably different. Hoping Umbrella did good work with these films and my investment in the set turns out to be worth it - if anyone sees any early impressions out there, please share them here!

New French Extremity Vol. 2 (including DOBERMANN, FAT GIRL, IN MY SKIN, and TWENTYNINE PALMS) set for 8 October 2025 from Umbrella

Might as well link the already released New Extremity Collection Vol 1.

DOBERMANN explodes with kinetic violence and dark humor, while FAT GIRL ignites controversy and conversation with its chilling honesty and haunting final act - a film as intimate as it is incendiary.

IN MY SKIN is a harrowing descent into self-mutilation and corporeal obsession, crafting a body horror classic as much psychological as it is physical, and TWENTYNINE PALMS is a bleak, hypnotic road film that strips down language, desire, and identity in the desolate American West, culminating in one of the most disturbing finales in modern cinema.

FEATURES:
-Only available from the Umbrella webstore, the New Extremity Collection Volume 2 Collector's Edition includes:
-All movies completely uncut and uncensored
-100 page book with essays by Jack Sargeant, Matt Konopka, Emma Westwood and Martyn Conterio
-Custom artwork by Chris Malbon AKA Melbs
-8 artcards
-2 x A3 reversible poster
-Limited Edition Numbered release

DOBERMANN

European screen legends Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci star in DOBERMANN, a high-octane urban western based on the graphic novel by Joel Houssin.

Yann Lepetrec, Le Dobermann, Public Enemy Number 1.

He is a modern cowboy with roots in the French tradition of criminals. Without ideological motivation, the hero is pure adrenaline, invariably pursuing danger, wherever it might be. He leads a gang of maniacs known for their garish and efficient assaults on banks, in defiance to the capacity of the police.

Directed by Jan Kounen

FAT GIRL

Continuing her provocative and bold tradition, Catherine Breillat’s FAT GIRL (À MA SOEUR!) is an unflinchingly harsh but powerful look at female adolescence.

Anaïs is twelve and bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. She watches her older sister, Elena, whom she both loves and hates. Elena is fifteen and devilishly beautiful. Neither more futile, nor more stupid than her younger sister, she cannot understand that she is merely an object of desire. And, as such, she can only be taken. Or had. Indeed, this is the subject: a girl’s loss of virginity. And, that summer, it opens a door to tragedy.

Directed by Catherine Breillat

IN MY SKIN

A film to truly get under your skin, Marina de Van’s IN MY SKIN (DANS MA PEAU) is a powerful, shocking rumination on the connection to one’s own body, and life as a woman.

Esther’s life is panning out nicely. She will soon move in with her boyfriend Vincent and she seems set to get a permanent position at the public relations company where she freelances. All would be fine if Esther didn’t accidentally discover a piercing curiosity about her own body. How deep must she cut to discover the truth?

Directed by Marina de Van

TWENTYNINE PALMS

David is an independent American photographer in pursuit of unspoiled natural locations for an upcoming magazine photoshoot. Katia is his unemployed Russian girlfriend, who would follow him anywhere because she is in love. Their trip consists of passionate encounters and frequent fights, but this seemingly empty relationship takes a dark turn when a brutal incident abruptly ends their journey.

Written and Directed by Bruno Dumont (Flanders), TWENTYNINE PALMS combines French Extremity and American road movie genres to question not only what is on screen, but also the very nature of reality.

EXTRAS:
-NEW! I'm too dry, my love: Anton Bitel on arid relationships and desert politics in Bruno Dumont's Twentynine Palms

Twentynine Palms is a bit of an odd choice, as it doesn’t really have some of the hallmarks of the New French Exteemity. I remember it being less engaging than most of Dumont’s other features

Yeah, that's a bit of a weird inclusion...I remember it being more like a Zabriskie Point meditative thing, but I remember even on its initial release it was sold on it's "shocker" ending. I imagine many might be bored. Funny I was actually wanting to revisit this, but wont be doing it via an odd genre collection.

I think it's interesting it's one of the films that directly led to the term "New French Extremity" as it is very different in comparison to what would be associated with that movement later on, even with the eclectic films categorized that way. It has more in common with Van Sant's Death Trilogy than Noe's Irreversible in my view)
Ironically despite being my least favorite of the Dumont films I've seen so far, this one (alongside Fat Girl) piqued my interest in the set. Still seems superfluous just for that film considering Fractured Visions' solid edition.

This really got rocked and rolled in the box en route and arrived damaged. Has anyone (especially overseas...) had any luck dealing with Umbrella on something like this? I was kind of shocked when I saw that it was just bouncing around inside of a much bigger box without any cushioning.

I ordered something from them once and they sent the wrong item. I simply replied to the order email ([email protected]) and they resolved the issue fairly quickly. I would think they would handle your situation similarly if the damage is obvious and you send a pic

Good to know, thanks swo. Email and pic is out to them. Hoping they just have replacement outer boxes.

FWIW, if you haven't gotten this set yet: Discs are in cardboard sleeves if that matters to you, and I would say the outer box (the one that's damaged in my case) is maybe a centimeter too big, so contents inside have a bit too much room to move around. Thinking about putting some bubble wrap inside or something so everything fits as it should. Not necessarily the most encouraging special edition box like this that I've bought, put it that way. At least it doesn't say Curzon all over it.

Freaked by is truly an incredible release, and I’m sure it took a significant amount of pressure from its filmmakers to make Disney amenable to releasing it. Umbrella really is just about the best in the business when it comes to supplements

People on the other forum speculated that the rights reverted back to the producers as Fox only bought distribution rights from the original production company, Tommy Films. Drafthouse Films is now credited on the cover.

Got it properly ironed and framed (poster in this set is canvas and came folded in an envelope external to the set). I think it turned out pretty great. Ignore our utility closet's desperate need for a magic eraser.

Announcement #1: Rubber's Lover (1996)

A cyberpunk nightmare, drenched in industrial horror and psychedelic visions, unfolds in this underground classic. Rogue scientists conduct sadistic experiments, pushing the boundaries of sensory overload and drug induced psychic abilities, leading to madness and destruction. From the visionary mind of Shozin Fukui (964 Pinocchio), Rubber's Lover transports viewers into a world of tech, sensory overload, and mind-melting paranoia. This brutal fusion of body horror and high-concept sci-fi is shot in stark black and white, creating a raw and visceral look that fans of the cyberpunk genre won't want to miss!

New Wave Video will be announcing Spine #3 and #4 soon, number 4 they say is a real masterpiece and they will be performing their own restoration of it.

Going by some artwork shared on their Instagram, one of these is Kazuo Komizu’s long short film Guzoo: The Thing Forsaken By God Part 1 (there is no part 2).

Orbit has copies of the deluxe box of Freaked up for preorder. Guess they worked something out with Umbrella, I thought these were exclusive to Umbrella’s site but perhaps they are loosening that restriction in preparation for the new importing restrictions for US customers (Orbit also have the version without all the books for $50 less)
