Eh. They did the same with both PUTNEY SWOPE and DAISIES.

Hmm, an Eclipse set featuring a long promised but so far undelivered film. I've got it! It's going to be a two disc set of Ran and Contempt on blu.

it'd be terrible if the eclipse were the Eisenstein silents set.

'Love Streams' in some kind of American Indie eclipse box? Mikey & Nicky would fit, too..

And terribly redundant given Kino's releases. I believe that Criterion officially confirmed that they had abandoned The Battleship Potemkin when Kino's region 1 DVD came out a few years back.

Equally crazy. Not to perpetuate the myth that the Eclipse set is some sort of insult - I'm thinking more about the number of titles they could sell if these films weren't part of larger, more expensive DVD sets and were instead standalone Blu-rays.

I agree it'd be redundant. But it was rumored so long that maybe they were working on it forever, and had some finished (SD) masters for some of the films--sort of like the Rosselini War Trilogy situation. They may have decided that Eisenstein still sells and they should make some money off the investment they made in the films ten years ago.

So, looking forward to windowboxed (blech, worst thing about eclipse) Eisenstein.

You do realize that what you're saying makes zero sense, right?

In this week's NOW magazine (Toronto's Indie paper), an interview with William Friedkin has this quote in reference to SORCERER :“That’s a movie people still talk about,” he told me during our TIFF photo shoot, suggesting that a Criterion Collection special edition would not be out of the question. “I’d love to see it come back into circulation, maybe even get it back in front of an audience.”

Something is definitely being changed on the Rashomon page.

Yep. Looks like a re-issue of both the DVD and a Blu upgrade is coming since they took down the old DVD art.

Maybe a new cover and a DVD upgrade as well... since it is only showing the Essential Arthouse cover.

Since they added the links to Hulu to the website, it's quite possible that they plan to do this with their Hulu library...

Heaven's Gate and Weekend are Spines 635 and 636, meaning there's still room to squeeze Trilogy of Life into 631-634...

Yeesh, five new films and zero new commentaries. Not that the extras are bad, but I miss my favorite type of extra.

A rare month when I want every single release. Jeepers, I'd better start saving now.

Under films on their website the images for Coming Soon and All Films seems to be from unannounced films (though the one for upcoming is probably an image from Heaven's Gate I forgot). I'm 90% sure the all films image is from Snow Trail

Rashomon was not produced by Toho, was it?

Produced by Daiei. Plus, it contains a 68-minute doc that wasn't on the previous release.

Are you talking about http://www.criterion.com/library" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?

If you mouse over the image, it will tell you what film it is from. I am seeing Eating Raoul and The Idiot for Coming Soon and All Films, (And Shallow Grave for new releases) so maybe it changes up.
