Also doesn't 30 hours seems a tad light for six films that I'm sure could have days about them? (Alien box had 60 hours). I smell a "Super limited director's approved Bluray" in the works. Probably to coincide with the 3D eventual "upgrade."

At least it isn't 3D.

That is the only thing that has shocked me about this announcement. I figured it would be all or nothing.

I know I have listened to the commentaries for the prequel films (mostly helmed by Rick McCullum) and they were kind of zzzzzzz

Are the commentaries for the original films (that I assume they will port over) worth a listen?

I haven't seen the originals in years, I never really responded to them as a kid. And the prequels got worse as they went along (Episode I wasn't that bad, I suppose)... but shit if this isn't going to be the Blu-ray set to own this year. What the hell - preordered.

Just a friendly reminder--if any of you actually pay money for this through channels that will eventually make their way into George Lucas' pockets, I'm going to heckle your life like mfunk at a James Mills concert.

I thought III was the only watchable prequel. I don't think I would ever watch I or II again. Plus, let's face it: I & II were just to build a trilogy. We waited 20 years to see the events that happened in III.

Time to pop in my pan-and-scan VHS set in an ill-conceived attempt to spite Lucas's unending stubbornness.

I've listened to the Episode IV commentary and part of Episode V. I can't remember anything about the commentaries. Take that info any way you want.

I preordered the complete shabang. Swo17 can heckle me all he wants but I'll think twice next time I want to buy soemthing from him on half.com.

I remember thinking "What are these black bars, why am I seeing less of the movie?" Granted I was probably ten, but still no excuse.

Now this puzzles me (but bear in mind I've never got the appeal of these films, not even the best of them, not even when I was eight years old) - why would you be excited to own a collection of films you don't even particularly like? I can sort of understand people being fueled by the fumes of nostalgia, but if you don't even have that, what do these films have to offer?

It does seem like an odd reason to pre-order them, especially since only the crappy versions are going to be included.

Because I suppose I ought to revisit them, and it's the best format on which to do so. It's not like I will have any trouble reselling the set if it goes badly.

Not true. I know you haven't seen them, but the edits that will be on the Blurays are really horrendous and out of place. The whole affair is treated clumsily and with a certain laziness. The best versions of the OT is the untouched, sadly non-anamorphic, designated as extra copies on the limited edition sets as seen here. Save you a load of cash too I presume.

I have that set, and it's really not bad- if nothing else, there's a series of Rifftrax specifically designed for the special edition cut on that set, so you get a trio of decent movies and a trio of Mystery Science Theater fodder all in one box.

This is by no means an endorsement of the Blu-Ray, just to point out that those releases of the untouched originals was a very cynical move on Lucas' behalf: "You wanted them unchanged, here you go".

Thank God we have the original version of Hardware Wars...suprised Lucas didn't ask Fosselius to make a special edition...

Yeah, I was trying to bleed out my disappointment in as few words as possible. I'd rather have those laserdisc ports(or VHS in the case of Return of the Jedi) than even the cleanest special edition.
