Just wanna jump in to this cover’s defense. I actually looooove it, particularly as an inversion of Criterion’s now iconic all type design. This was even done by CC regular Sam Smith (House, Something Wild). Wish they were doing more original pieces like this.

To each their own. I say it is an eyesore, which means the pop cartoon style of the era was probably an eyesore. It looks like a garish cover for a cheap children's coloring book.

That Bucket of Blood cover is also very much in keeping with the style of the original poster (needs to be seen in full res to appreciate it).
