The packaging of LYIM looks wonderful in my opinion. Very fitting with the film. The simplicity is the most striking quality of the packing.

Agreed, looks way better this way in comparison to when the cover was revealed.

And I didn`t know that The Man Who Fell to Earth was a digipack? i just bought it last month and it now comes in a double thick keep case :(

The SD version of TMWFTE doesn't come in a digipack. It's just a cardboard box.

The SD Man Who Fell... was never a digi. It's always been a double-thick case housed next to the novel inside of a heavy cardboard box.

Just to confirm for everyone the text on the Marienbad cover is raised.

Also, Seventh Seal comes in one of their standard figure-8 cases.

How durable does it seem to be? Will the raised text get smooshed when I catalogue the set between two other DVDs on a shelf?

I'm sure it's just a regular die-cut raised text, nothing to get worried about

That's really surprising.

Like Domino says you shouldn't worry. It looks pretty solid. The booklet is rather thick, though, and I don't think they accounted for this when designing the sleeve: It's near impossible getting the digipak out of it.

At any rate, packaging for:

The Seventh Seal DVD
Bergman Island
Last Year at Marienbad DVD
My Dinner with Andre

Are the essays in the booklet for Bergman Island in the booklet with The Seventh Seal?

Bergman Island comes with a simple insert with a short essay by Nyrerod that is not in the booklet included with The Seventh Seal.

Also, while the contents of Bergman Island's disc and the second disc of The Seventh Seal are the same, the menus do differ.

Yes, surprised here too, was hoping for a nice digipak like many of their other re-releases.

I just still don't understand that Andre cover. It's so predictable, so inoffensive...maddening.

Chris, is that great original cover for Andre used anywhere in the package?

If they were just going to put the title on a sticker anyway, they should have just gone all the way and had the cover completely blank. I still think that idea would have been a candidate for best cover ever.

I must say, based on those pictures the My Dinner with Andre is surprisingly weak - I'm having a fair amount of trouble connecting the front cover design (particularly the wacky title font) and the inner booklet design. Had they kept the original cover design and used it as the booklet cover (or reversed it and the current cover) then it would seem a bit more connected in my head.

Then again, I've never seen the film, and I've never really liked that title font much at all.

will the Blu Seventh Seal also come in the clear plastic case (eg Wages of Fear)? Have they hopefully given up on that cardboard case used in the first wave of blu releases (eg The Third Man)?

I'm pretty sure they're entirely done with that.

Last Year at Marienbad for DVD packaging of the year?

"Worst DVD Packaging of the Year" maybe
