All About Eve is a real shame because it's sturdy otherwise and it looks nice. I can't see any aesthetic reason for the foam knobs and if they were looking just to make it thinner (which is what this ultimately does) they could have just used sleeves, which would have been a far better choice.

At the very least, if they do offer a dual-amaray case option the booklet should fit well enough.

It’s a misguided move to use less plastic (no plastic tray in the digipak), but like paper straws, all they’ve done is make something useful worse

Oh my, I really hope this doesn’t become a standard. Hopefully Roma isn’t like that.

It seems a little weird considering they are paired releases that Now Voyager is just using a regular case.

It’s a completely unique package: a giant hardcover book 14.5 inches tall by 10.75 inches wide, and half an inch thick (Yes I just measured my set).

Regarding the All About Eve packaging, I know this would be pure speculation, but what are the chances that Criterion re-releases/reprints it with different packaging.

I held off on buying the digibook when I heard about Criterion's announcement, but now I need to decide if I want to get the digibook for a bit more money (I think it's technically OOP), or wait for Criterion to release it with better packaging.

Historically, is there any indication that they would change packaging after customer complaints, or is this just a pipe dream?

It's absolutely possible, but it strikes me as unlikely that it'll be a digipack redesign if it does happen, and it could be years unless people start to have actual problems (glue failing, etc) with the existing packaging outside of aesthetic concerns

AFAIK the only times they repackaged releases were the old flimsy digis and some dual-format releases. I suppose it is possible but I'm not going to hold my breath. With enough complaints they might which may very well happen given that the sticky knobs are bound to fall off eventually and the booklets are prone to tearing this way. The whole thing is such a disappointment and honestly concerning. I hope this is the first and last time they use this sort of design. As much as I like to own a disc I'm not going to give them a cent with that kind of awful packaging.

If you really want to own the film I'd go for the OOP release. I wouldn't put faith in Criterion to address the issues very quickly.

I picked up All About Eve. And like everyone reports the rubber knobs are awful. Sticky and frustratingly stubborn to pull off disc, with a bit of rubber flakes coming off. Plus it has that awful rubber smell.

Here’s what I did. I took a pinch of corn starch (you can also use talc). I rubbed it into the knobs. Then took a can of compressed air and blew off the excess. You can also use a small little soft brush. The stickyness is gone and discs slide off and on, although the left side (where the flaking occurred ) is a little too easy for disc to come off. Some may wonder if the corn starch or talc will have an affect on disc. I don’t think so. Such a small amount. I still hope Criterion will offer an alternate package

It sounds like they are only acknowledging the ripped booklet as a problem and not the difficulty in removing discs. Whatever, at least this will be no more

Has anyone cracked/broken their All About Eve discs while trying to get them out from those damned rubber hubs?

Has anyone tried twisting the discs off and on instead of pulling and pushing?

What’s funny is we know Criterion has a copy of Ford at Fox, they could have figured this out before they put it into production with all of a thirty second visit to their own shelves

Currently debating whether to pick this up from B&N after work today and then request the package replacement, or just wait until the packaging updates to purchase. Don't want to damage the discs but also don't want to wait passed the sale to own it. First world problems I know. Anyone had any damage to their discs taking them out just once?

I’m guessing it was a case of “we know this way sucks but it saves us money so let’s just try it and hope no one complains”.
