Well, I just discussed it with dom, and I'm going to step away from being in charge of the genre lists with War. I think it's just more fun for me to participate than to lead, so I'm handing the reins of power back in a virtually bloodless coup.

And I thank Matrix for taking over and doing a great job when I felt similarly burned-out two lists back. I look forward to leading the charge into War with all of you

So I'm just going to throw this out there: Next year, after the Religious/Faith List ends, we still have a big question mark. 2015 will also mark five years since the Genre List Project started, and there have been requests for revisiting some of the early lists from new members or those who didn't participate the first go-around. What do people think of an abbreviated second round of the first couple genres alternating between new genre lists. For example:
Religion (7 months) --> Noir (4 months) --> New Genre TBA (7 months) --> Westerns (4 months) --> New Genre TBA (7 months) --> Musicals (4 months) --> New Genre (7 months), at which point we can reassess whether we want to keep revisiting previous Genres in between new genres or just plow through more new ones. Any thoughts?

I like that idea, especially because I didn't participate in the first few genre projects. For those that already participated the first time and aren't inclined to submit a revised list, would it be easy to tabulate their original lists along with the new ones (i.e. do you still have records of everything?) Then it would function a little like the dynamic top 10 threads, where your votes are always set in stone (unless you decide to change them).

So long as erotica gets the next new slot, I'm down.

I have the old lists but I'd prefer people sent me new lists even if they're the same (though then if I don't hear from you I'll use your old list?)
And bamwc2, the next new Genre List is still undecided and I'm not putting it up for discussion / a vote til next year, this is just long-term stuff I'm trying to think about!

Yes, that's what I was suggesting.

A shorter re-run of previous genres sounds good to me too especially as I've been using the threads to add recent viewings into and have a few more films to place now. I think that revisiting these lists would also help to emphasise that it does not have to be a one time and we're done thing but can work both as a place for all of our lists as well as a series of ongoing discussion threads that all keep ticking over but have a burst of more intensive activity when the focus is placed back onto them again.
I also like the idea of having the previous votes count until they are changed, partly because there are going to be some genres that might attract more voters than others, and partly to help it stand apart from the decades lists, where going round again and comparing entirely new sets of results to previous rounds of voting is interesting in itself.

Really exciting if everyone else is on board with the idea. Then I can just submerge myself in classic American cinema in preparation for the upcoming genre list re-visits and the v4.0 30s/40s/50s lists.

Okay,
I've penciled in the schedule. We'll worry about what new genres we are tackling next year, but if you're trying to long-term plan, feel free to use this as a guide. Also feel free to weigh in on any genre viewings in the meantime in the respective genre threads in this subforum-- a quick perusal of any of the threads will tell you that you'd not be alone in still using them post-tabulation!

Is there any chance Scorsese's Silence will be released before the end of the voting period? [-o<

Is there any interest in doing another Alternative AFI Top 100 again (perhaps in place of one of the genre project slots)? I just looked and we actually last tabulated seven years ago

I would love a short rerun of the Western project.

Then good news, it's happening in 2016 (see the link to the schedule on the previous page)

This seems like it would basically be a country list devoted to the country that already dominates every single lists project. (And as eclectic as this forum is, I would think that most people's top 50 American films of all time wouldn't be that different from their list of the top 50 American films of all time excluding 100 really popular ones.) If we're getting into countries, I'd be more interested in something like an Eastern Europe project.

Yeah, I remember when we first started the genre project there was a feeling of doing a countries project after we got tired of genres. Going through Bosnia or something like would be excellent fun.

Suggestion for a future "genre" project: Christmas! Compiling a top 50 would be tough, so maybe top 20 instead. A "mini-list project"?
Die Hard should of course top every list, closely followed by the
Home Alone-saga

Or maybe just "holiday-themed" to cover more ground.

I think an interesting project could be an Alternate Oscars for the acting categories. Similar to the Best Picture one, it could just be an ongoing project that everyone can do at their leisure. I have loved reading through the Best Picture threads, and the acting categories seem to generally provide a more interesting mix of movies than the Best Pic category.

I would gladly get the ball rolling on threads for this if people are interested, as it could run concurrently indefinitely like the Best Picture threads (and I already started the ball rolling with a Best Director Appendix)

I'd love a Japanese run through.
Such an extensive run of great and interesting films.
And I always feel like I'm never near caught up.
Russia would be very useful and interesting.
Germany would be good as well.
Africa?
Turkey ... Arabic ... Eastern Europe
Country projects sound good and more how I approach my kevyip rather than by decades.
As for Bosnia, the last Bosnian film I saw was As If I Am Not There (2010) ... by an Irish director.
