That might be a bit of a stretch, but for the fact that they did say a while ago on Facebook that they were working on some more Erice.

That, and the fact that unless they're working on The Little Mermaid or Jonathan Livingston Seagull, I can't really imagine what the seagulls might signify that would be less of a stretch.

This maybe?
Lars Von Truffaut wrote:Breaking The Waves has been rumored for a while. The "gulls" in the distance could be a nod to the naive characters of Karen in The Idiots and Selma from Dancer In The Dark. Also, the predominant gull genus is "Larus".

That's still a bit of a stretch. I'd be surprised if we didn't get both at some point though, whether it's this year or next.

And there's a lovely HD transfer waiting in the wings, and there's only one other option for "more Erice" unless they're thinking of a collection of shorts. (Still, now that El Sur is available on BluRay with subs, I'd much rather they did something with El Sol del Membrillo, which has a wonderful set of extras available for it from the fnac release.)

Actually, why not just hold our breath for a 'Complete Works' box set, the three features peppered with the shorts and Erice drafted in to put together more extras like he did for Membrillo?

What I'd really like is for him to film an other feature. Some inspiration has to be brewing in that noggin.

I don't know what this would mean but could the pearls be a semi-pun at the word "perils"?

Or a semi-pun on "purr-LOLs": it's a three-disc compendium of YouTube cute kitten videos! Awwww. . .

Maybe the gulls are a reference to Frank Perry's LAST SUMMER.

I can dream, can't I? :(

Perhaps the arrangement of the pearls is also a clue? They seem to be lined up like a necklace or a crown... Only thing I found in my searches was Pearls of the Crown by Sacha Guitry, but that was already released on Eclipse. Maybe it's a vague hint at more Guitry?

Or a pearl necklace from the jewelery heist in Rifif?

Or it could be "pearl necklace" in the sexual sense? Some pornographic film?

A new Criterion version of Film Socialisme, pried from Kino and returning to just the Navajo subtitles as the director intended!

I think it's Tabu but there's a pearl bracelet in The Scarlet Empress.

Honestly, if it was this I would flip out. This is a masterpiece and been LOST to the ages. Perry is a wholly underrated filmmaker.

I was thinking something more arthouse-y, but whatever.

So no one wants to comment on my theory that Criterion will be releasing a 5 (blu ray) disc box set (the line)
and that the arrangement of the vehicles in parking spaces is the clue as to what is on that box set?

My first guess would be a Kieslowski/Decalogue box.....as there are 10 cars in the picture. It might seem a bit much for Criterion to cram 6 episodes on to one disc, but I watched Fanny & Alexander on Christmas and remember the 1st tv disc ending around the 5:30 mark and I don't think the episodes are a full hour each. Then 2 of the longer episodes would share a disc with shorts? a documentary? (whatever the motorcycle represents). Then Dekalogs 5 & 6 would both be on their own disc with the movies "A Short Film About Love" & " A Short Film About Killing". And the final disc would more shorts? or another documentary or extras? The only problem is that the transport is in the same parking spot as the 6 small cars, & there wouldn't seem to be enough room for anything else (I would take it that a transport could be a documentary).

The other thing that occurred to me is that perhaps it's not for Kieslowski, but for Bergman (hence the iceberg on land in the middle of it all) & that Summer with Monika will be one of the features of the set, Scenes From A Marriage is 6 episodes & only 300 minutes long, so that would be easier to fit on to one blu ray than 6 episodes of The Dekalog.

It's going to be a massive boxset containing 5 discs worth of index cards with all of our wrong guesses written on them.

Perhaps it's not a box, but just 5 Bergman titles in blu: Scenes From A Marriage, Summer For Monika, Wild Strawberries (which we're still waiting on), & ?

If there's any more Bergman, let's hope it's Persona

This has surpassed all Polanski threads present and future as the most unreadable thread on the board. Congratulations, everyone!

And yes, this might just be a hint that Polanski's Che? is coming to Criterion!!!!!!

I wonder if the 5 lines have anything to do with the time Polanski raped that girl, it was 5 months until her 14th birthday

Eh, the MGM disc was just fine (as were the other films in that set) -- and surely any Bergman buff would own that set by now. 8-[ Criterion must be losing its touch, though, since it didn't release a single new Bergman title last year. :-k "From the Life of the Marionettes" is one of the titles I'd like to see the most.
