The Worst Screen Couple category isn't even remotely clever, sounds like a couple of third graders came up with the nominations. I thought nominating Giuliani for worst supporting actor a couple years ago was kinda funny, but they're really going to space now

It’s one thing to say “oh, hey, everybody in the industry does rough work sometimes, but it’s occasionally interesting and at worst fun to laugh at,” but it’s another for an “awards” show to dedicate so much time to going “wow, this guy HATES women, huh? Am I right????” Just…a weird tone.

Presumably because it’s based on the book by the same title. I guess that makes it a “rip-off”? Seems like they just wanted to get in any many slots as possible for the *hot goss*

There was a mini-series version of the book twenty years ago, so presumably they consider the new film a remake of that. Anyway, I'm now pulling extra hard for Blonde to get an out-of-left-field Best Picture nom tomorrow just to be the (surprisingly) first film to get both Best and Worst noms.

I see my MW for Best Supporting Actress prediction has prompted some comments, haha. I don't closely follow the campaigns to be honest; I was just playing the prediction game. I saw she's getting some buzz for both categories, clearly more in the lead category than the supporting. But to me, MW wasn't the 'lead' in Fabelmans, but rather a prominent supporter, so that's where my logic came from. Didn't know that about Stanfield, but good to know there is precedence for my very long-shot prediction.

That would be crazy, taking Glenn Close in Hillbilly Elegy, famously nominated for an Oscar and Razzie for the same performance, to next the level. I don't see Blonde nabbing a Best Picture nom but the 8 Razzies is just ridiculous. Personally I fell somewhere in the middle on it.

The Razzies have always been attention-seeking, but all in jest. Usually there's a laugh or two when seeing the noms, but not this year. If Tom Hanks gets an Otto nom tomorrow, that has to be the first time ever someone gets 3 acting noms in 3 separate movies in a year between the Razzies and Oscars. Right?

I had a dream sometime ago about a loner guy in a cloudy cold town and everyone was speaking some Scandinavian dialect. Only dream I ever had that was in a foreign language.

I just checked out the Wiki-synopsis for this Otto film. It's like someone took my dream and made a film of it and put Tom Hanks in it and had him speak English instead of Scandinavian.

It is a remake of a Swedish film

I agree with your assessment, and now knowing this is a 'thing' and seeing her getting pushed out of Best Actress in the stats, if I were able to amend my predictions, I'd probably move her to that category as well. However, I think Supporting Actress is the most competitive of the year, both for the nominations and winner. I went back and forth on like eight people for it already, and still have a hard time imagining the academy snubbing at least one of six, which is a necessity!

Telling on myself by saying I never had Paul Dano in my GoldDerby predictions this season, I always thought they'd Belfast it. I only predicted them both here to play the field.

I cannot fucking believe both Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis missed Best Actress, that is utter horseshit.

Yeah, Top Gun swept all the precursors and then missed for TÁR, Christ. I think you have to predict All Quiet at this point

All right, I'll have a scoring update up shortly once I check this ridiculously large spreadsheet for errors, but the variance between users using this new scoring system is much larger than before.

Until then, biggest surprises based on user predictions were Brian Tyree Henry, A House Made of Splinters, Riseborough, and Ruben Östlund, each of which no one out of 13 participants predicted; biggest snubs were Decision to Leave in International Film and Top Gun in cinematography, which everyone predicted, and Dano (11/13) and Deadwyler (11/13).

I think I did reasonably well in my predictions. A few of the riskier picks I made paid off, but on the other hand, I went with some wishful thinking picks that did not. For one, I resisted the idea that Top Gun would actually get a nomination for its writing. I’m legitimately surprised it missed In Cinematography, though, because I figured it was the frontrunner there.

In any case, EEAAO is totally winning Best Picture. I had it as the nomination leader in my predictions and STILL managed to underestimate it. I’m pleasantly surprised that Tar got in for Editing and Cinematography, and I’d say that qualifies as overperforming as well. Dare I even suggest that it might have an outside chance at winning Best Director now?

You say that Best Picture is locked up, I say that Everything Everywhere all at One has The Power of the Dog written all over it; a nominations leader hasn't won since The Shape of Water due to the backlash and increased negative campaigning it receives afterwards.

Good on the voters for propelling de Armas to a deserved Actress nomination over some pretty toxic press treatment. Also, bad on the voters for shutting out Chazelle's movie in all major categories (mostly for movies that no one outside of awards season voters have actually seen)

EDIT: Didn't realize that Taylor Swift failed to get an Original Song nom; steering clear of certain parts of the internet accordingly
