For the past two days now every time I go to criterion.com my anti-virus program goes nuts and announces that I have obtained a virus from the website. Then, within 10 seconds, it announces I have another virus from the same site. As it stands I currently have seven viruses locked in the "virus vault". I'm no computer expert so I can't determine what the heck is going on. I see others have had problems with the site recently but has anyone experienced this particular problem?

Since I am unwise in this area, I don't want to e-mail Criterion and bark at them over infecting me until I can better understand the situation. And even then, I won't bark at them.

OK, I'm 99% sure this is just those oh so thorough folks at Deep Discount, but Google "criterion collection" "virus" and click the first hit - if this is a hack, then wow.

I got a nifty review of the Fuller Eclipse set. I imagine that's not what you were referring to?

my AVG scanner detects the virus as well. I emailed Criterion yesterday saying just that. The name of the virus "HTML/framer".
I also noticed criterion's website got a bit slower.
Doing some research on internet i found out that many websites have been reported having the same virus. Just like the Towelie I have no idea what's going on.

It looks like Criterion is just one of many sites that has been hacked by this virus. I'm not tech savvy enough to understand it all, but if you google search "nmidahena" and "virus" you'll find a slew a message boards and PC security sites discussing it.

Here's a bit more info: My computer says the "object name is 1[1].js" and the "discovery: virus found HTML/Framer" Like most, I haven't a clue what any of it means. But I have the savages locked away in the Virus Vault.

Looks like they fixed the problem. It's loading up like it should, the last few days it was worse than a 56k modem.

It appears that their site was somehow compromised and a javascript link was placed on their pages. What the script does is opens an iframe (basically a little window on the page) that then points to another URL that then proceeds to run a bunch of bad scripts (what they do I'm also not aware of.)

I would suggest that everyone should block this site:

For that matter, whatever happened to the essays? I remember, a few months ago, panicking because they had dissappeared only to find out it was limited to the most recent releases and the rest of the catalog had their essays on-site.
But now. As of today and who knows since when. Not a single Criterion entry on the webpage has an essay available.

Yeah. Those cheap bums. It's like they want me to BUY their damn DVDs instead of Netflixing them and then reading the essays online at work Monday morning!

And of course their stupid Flash-based site is confounding my attempts to Google a web cache of any given essay -- I'm only getting the first page.

I have to admit my Criterions feel somewhat more valuable now that I know that their essays cant be found online. Or can they? Anybody out there in the know?

i'm glad that he essays are coming back.
there's been a number of films that i decided to pick up based on reading the essays first, and i can't imagine that i'm the only one.
