Why not? If Criterion can release the "Monsters and Madmen" box...

Is Child's Play owned by Paramount? I thought it was United Artists property.

I think he is talking about the Sidney Lumet film.

Of course I am refering to Lumet's, Child's Play! My post was all about Lumet - and I even put the year of release (1972) in parentheses. But it's Daniel I'd lile to see most. I'm surprised that Paramount hasn't released after all these years. Lumet considers it one of his best films.

Well, that makes a lot more sense to me.

I'd like to see a Criterion Don't Look Now. Expecially with a Roeg/Sutherland commentary on the film.

I second this. and... a new print of The Tenant is screening in NYC soon... I can only hope this means great things!

GODDAMNIT!!! I just bought the vanilla edition for seven dollars...just like Polanski and Criterion to fuck with me again like this...I hope they end up in a Kafka-esque hell of their own creation trying to come up with any worthy special features for this. Oh wait... #-o

a.khan's post must have been a joke... the poster above put the year by Child's Play. Course, he can speak for himself ;)

As far as Don't Look Now, according to an e-mail Tamara sent me, Criterion has no current plans for any more Nic Roeg.
We here at Criterion love Nic Roeg. However while we do hope to get to more of his films eventually, to the best of my knowledge we don't have any plans at this time. I hope this helps, and thanks for your email!
Not sure what that means about Insignificance, though I guess the obvious choice would be that they're taking their time with those acquisitions.

They will be releasing one of his insignificant films at some point in the future.

In retrospect, that was a terrible piece of word-play!

I know, but Tamara didn't mention it at all, so I assume the release is a ways off.

White Dog confirmed. Another Paramount holding goes to Criterion.

Any chance we might get Harold and Maude from Criterion soon? Another Paramount title in desperate need of an SE, and Hal Ashby is a director who belongs in the collection.

I would second Harold And Maude - with a commentary track by Wes Anderson and Bud Cort.

Criterion seriously needs some Ruth Gordon. I would buy a disc of Harold and Maude from them in a heartbeat, especially if Bud Cort has anything to do with its production. Speaking of Ruth Gordon, how about Rosemary's Baby? So much dirt and gossip around its "making of", and yet all we get on the R1 is a pompous (does this go without saying?) Robert Evans interview and a standard transfer (which could most definitely look better in the right hands.) I've been trying to keep myself from worrying too much about the Paramount possibilities... oh well.

They need to do Frankenheimer's Seconds. Another barebones if I remember correctly.

Seconds currently has a *gorgeous* transfer with director commentary.

Seconded (pardon the pun). Paramount does very, very well with its Black and White catalogue.

I believe almost all of Frankenheimer's films have commentaries on them.

Of the films of his that are available on DVD, yes that is true. But a few gems are missing:

The Young Savages (1961, owned by ???)
All Fall Down (1962, owned by Warner)
The Fixer (1968, owned by Warner)
99 and 44/100% Dead (1974, owned by Fox)

I'd love to see an anamorphic SD-DVD or Blu-Ray of The Train, which is a film I get a real kick out of.

The Extraordinary Seaman (1969) Warner --not on dvd

The Young Savages might be owned by MGM, but not sure.

The Extraordinary Seaman has the rep as a cinematic abortion, but I'd like to see it.
