I have just watched Donen's "The Grass is Greener" and when the whole segment came up where the wife got a coat from her lover, hides it in a suitcase and then acts as if she found the suitcase in a cab and has no idea what is in it and so forth I thought: Wait a minute, I know this plotline from a French black and white movie. But I just can't remember which one.

And when I'm at it, here is a much tougher one:
I remember the ending of an American black and white movie; I reckon it was a Bette Davis movie. In this ending a Man is shot (or in some other way badly wounded) at night on the porch of a house in some rural area and then starts to walk/run/stumble along the road to a train station (where his lover is about to arrive?). He reaches the station, but only to die on the tracks and miss the person he wanted to get to (maybe said person sees the man die, but I'm even less sure about that than I am about the rest). Does this ring a bell at all?

The first one is from Rivette's Le Coup du Berger.

I'm looking for the title or the composer for this music: sample here

Why? Because I keep hearing it in early musical accompaniment for silent films. This sample is straight from The Man Who Laughs (well, not straight, I don't know how to record from a DVD so I took the microphone, sorry for the bad sound quality). I heard it so often lastly it almost got on my nerves.

I try to remember the name of an Italian film I saw quite a few years ago (I'm sure it was Italian), but I just can't. The film was about a father who had got a million Lire after a work accident, and the whole family, especially the sons, try to find the money (one of them wants to start a barber shop, another a professional coir) in the end, after he has got himself a mistress, they try to poison him during a family dinner). I would really like to see it again. What film is it?

It sounds very much like King Vidor's BEYOND THE FOREST (1949). However, it is Bette Davis who is "badly wounded" - dying from peritonitis, brought about by a hasty abortion - stumbles to the train at night and dies in the dirt alongside the train tracks as the train leaves and her husband/doctor (Joseph Cotten) arrives a moment too late.

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have two movies I wish I could identify.

The first was an animation I saw over twenty years ago. I think it was a short and involved these characters (may have had long ears but I can't be certain) who go out hunting for large winged creatures (like sting rays). One of the characters dies, if I recall well, and turns into a winged creature. So basically, the "long eared" people go out hunting for their ancestors reincarnated as the flying creatures. I have been haunted by this cartoon for years and years and I wish to find it, or at least identify it. Anyone know anything about it?

The second was a TV movie I think which I also saw many years ago. A couple are about to move out of their apartment and spend the last night sleeping on a mattress. Through the night the man has many visions of a woman murdered in the apartment by her husband. He thinks it's ghosts from the past, but the next day the new owners of the apartment come over and we realise they are the same couple featured in the man's visions the night before. The film ends with a scream. Gave me the chills for weeks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your post alone gave me the chills. Now I want to know what movie this is.

There were many chilling made for TV movies in the period roughly 70's-early 80's: Don't Go To Sleep, Night Cries (my fave), Crowhaven Farm. Hell even schlocko stuff like Killdozer was fun (the fact that Ted Sturgeon created the source material may have more than a bit to do with that).

Other television films / episodes that creeped me out as a kid:

'The Silent Scream' (episode of 'Hammer House of Horror').

'The Flypaper' (episode of 'Tales of the Unexpected') - one of the only episodes not based on a Roald Dahl story (it's Elizabeth Taylor, but not that Elizabeth Taylor), and about the only one that's genuinely scary rather than just clever or uncanny. It's real urban legend territory (like the high rise tale above), taking the Brady & Hindley situation and bringing it very close to home.

That reminds me a bit of the John Carpenter TV movie (the one that wasn't Elvis: The Movie), Someone's Watching Me.

A couple of 90s short horror films that made an impression on me would have to be Elevated, an early short by Vincenzo Natali, who later went on to make Cube and Cypher. Like Cube it makes the most of a confined space, as a couple of people leaving an office building late at night are shocked by someone stumbling into their lift bloodied and speaking of a terrifying monster outside. Is he telling the truth or is he a maniac?

And Left Hand Drive which I seem to remember being an almost wordless piece confirming all my suspicions that underground car parks are entranceways to hell, as a nasty guy runs someone over and then drives off but finds that he is being herded towards an inevitable destination!

That sounds rather similar, but I'm pretty sure the one I saw wasn't feature length.

It just so happens that I watched this last week!!
That is a clip from THE DANCING PIG a 1907 short that's on the "Saved From the Flames" collection on Flicker Alley. The film is a recreation of a French music hall act from that period.
