So glad I didn't pick up Eddie Coyle when I saw it used for cheap. Excited to pick it up.

Love the Melville and any time CC uses original poster art. Have to say I'm not digging the Sullivan's Travels cover. I know this gets said every time, but I sure am tired of CC using flat ugly cartoons for their classic studio films (among others), even when the artist is good. ](*,)

The wacky "c" is a problem.

If we're talking about the Sullivan's Travels cover, I like the detail they gave to the Wacky C winding around the title.

I'm not a fan of the new Sullivan's Travels art either. Criterion is 2 for 2 now in giving us hideous renderings of Veronica Lake. Sorry, but you just can't beat that iconic poster designed they used before.

I don't see anything "flat" or hideous about it. I can understand the appreciation for the previous poster-based cover, but that one had a huge tagline that never sat well with me. Doesn't "on the take" mean accepting bribes, as opposed to "on the dole," meaning relying on charity, soup kitchens, bread lines, etc.? In any case, a rhyme does not a good tagline make.
Also, Veronica Lake's unnamed character is hardly the main focus of the film and so probably shouldn't be the only one on the cover. I like Veronica Lake, but the concept of that poster seemed to be simply: "Hey look, it's that glamorous blonde, the one with that hairstyle and the long eyelashes!" which isn't very appropriate to the film.

The criterion is an abomination, but it could look ok.

Cries and Whispers is an absolute atrocity. I hope they'll scrap this one and start over.

Agreed. It isn't "flat" at all. The amount of shading in it gives the design a level of detail that's far removed from anything "flat." It's OK to not like the cover, but if you're going to criticize it, at least find more appropriate words to do so.

good god, Cries and Whispers went from being odd but acceptable to phenomenally terrible--particularly so as it now mis-represents the film as a blood drenched giallo horror film. Grotesque in every respect.

I was warming to the first new Cries and Whispers cover, as it at least felt sort of Bergman-esque in terms of color scheme, font, feel, etc. It made sense, even if underwhelming.
This... Did they just really want to rehash the Blood for Dracula cover?

Why have a logo at all in the front? Just have a sticker "c" on front for marketing branding purposes.
