That Miranda July cover reminds me of those Arrow multi-character horror covers - in a bad way. At least Arrow gave you a reversible one. Like the goldfish though.

britcom68 wrote:My sole complaint about Grand B. Hotel's cover art is just that the blues are hardly indicative of the film's pallets. I would agree with others who would have preferred reds, yellow-orange or perhaps even pastels to echo the courtesan au chocolat. Shades of blue are used in the film, but hardly to such a degree it begged to be the cover art. Frankly this is one tremendous chance for the packaging itself to be opulent, in keeping in with the spirit of the film itself. If it is learned that Anderson himself approved this cover as-is then I would be shocked at his miscalculation from so meticulous an auteur.
I assume that the cover is designed by his brother, Eric Chase Anderson as most of his other titles are.

My initial reaction to the July cover was swimminghorsesness, but then it grew on me. All of these covers actually do a very good job of evoking what I think of the films. Make of that what you will

This one was done by Emma Wesley.

My main problem (apart from the unrepresentative color scheme) is the extremely unflattering illustration of F. Murray Abraham. (Scratch that, everybody's face looks bad.)

Late to the game here: I'm with the GBH cover dissenters. They've had so much time and this is such a great film. I was thinking something in line with the colors of the movie...

I was surprised they didn't go with something like the cover of the novel in the film. Too obvious maybe?

I got my replacement All About Eve today - about what I’d expect. A little confused why it came with another booklet that seems to have the same proportions but has a slightly different color scheme to the pages (not sure which one’s the one that came today to be honest!)

The old package could rip the booklet so I assume that's why they replaced it along with everything else.

Is it true that Roma comes with a 100 page book?

Yes! I haven't read all of it yet. There are a lot of pictures, though, featuring research, production design and film stills so it's not all text. Some of the pictures fold out too (basically full widescreen stills from the film from what I've seen so far).

More pages but more filler.
Yay.

I dont consider production design or research photos filler. Too many film stills, yeah, that is filler.

That's my stance too, but then, Chris did write : "Some of the pictures fold out too (basically full widescreen stills from the film from what I've seen so far)."

There's only a few of those, not that many.

I'll be putting pics up today (some are on Facebook right now) but the Zeman set is pretty cool, though I won't be surprised if there are issues during shipping. As annoying as the Eve box was it was pretty sturdy and the Zeman set is more fragile in comparison and it won't shock me if certain aspects of it rip easily. The discs are also in sleeves that are a bit tight.

That looks lovely. It probably will turn out to be the nicest package of the year.

Blu-ray has been around (and not getting scratched by lightweight cardboard) for how long now? And people are still griping about slots?

I actually have a few BDs scratched by digibooks usually slots. I also had a few of the Zatoichi discs that ended up too deep in the slot and kind of stuck in the glue.
Finally, when you remember that CD-rot and most likely DVD and BD-rot are increased by dye content from booklets, you'd think it's best not to have discs litterally in contact with printed cardboard.

In all my years buying Blu-rays, I have never even seen a scratched disc. Are you sure you can't just take some glue off with your fingernail and it looks like a scratch? The coating on those things is very resilient, but definitely resilient enough to withstand a cardboard sleeve.

I dont think these scratches ever caused me playback issues though, but still. I can't say for sure where these scratches come from, but these are for discs stored in Pozzoli digibooks with tight slots. I often simply chose to place them in much looser plastic sleeve and it solved having difficulties sliding them out and back in. I dont think it's coming from glue considering how they look like and where they are situated.

But again, you're right about the coating and the better technology overall about it. I'm quite certain DVDs with such scratches would have playback issues.
