So Shout Factory misspelled the title of
The Ninth Configuration on the cover's spine. They printed up new covers and are
making customer's fill out a replacement form. Which is silly because they have a list of all the people that ordered the thing because it is a site exclusive.

Hopefully it comes from a master that’s not as horribly degrained as their previous BD.

Fingers crossed they're not screwing up Army of Darkness and The Fog. I might get the former if they do all three cuts and the presentation is good across all versions. I remember preferring the longer cut of Evil Dead 2013 to the theatrical but liking the film in both cuts.
PS.: Seems they do offer the multiple cuts (as they did on the BD). The run time quoted on their product page is 81 / 96 / 88 / 90 min.

Army of Darkness is a 4-disc dual-format release, but their original Blu-ray was a 3-disc set. So who know which cut(s) they are offering in 4K.

Army of Darkness 4k will only have the theatrical cut in 4k. Shout said they couldn't get proper elements for the other cuts.

Ugh. The international cut of Army of Darkness on their previous Blu-ray was from a 4K scan and they used much of that scan for their presentation of the theatrical cut. Once again, like Lifeforce, the better cut of the film isn't on UHD, so it is an easy pass.

It’s pretty on-brand for the film that may have the most divergent and compromised physical media releases, if not close to it. Ready to pick between four different eventual UHDs for the film, all of which will have pluses and minuses

I think one issue with this film is that Universal only has interpositives of the non-North American cuts, correct? Wasn’t this also the rationale behind
Legend’s test cut not getting a 4K scan?

That was the rationale behind
Legend, but I'm not sure what elements Universal has for
Army of Darkness.
I certainly get why the director's cut of
Army of Darkness isn't getting a UHD, but Shout clearly had access to a 4K scan of the international cut. And even if it was off an IP, it would still offer some improvement over a Blu-ray.
Truthfully, this isn't as big a deal as them only doing the US cut of
Lifeforce. The international cut was Hooper's preferred cut and nearly everyone prefers it to the US theatrical cut.
You'd think with all the overpriced pins and action figures they'd put a little effort into these UHDs, but nope. I hope Arrow comes to the rescue of
Lifeforce.

That reminds me. Can anyone speak to the AV quality of the included Blu-Ray’s for the Halloween UHDs? I’ve not seen any mention of them.

The included blu-rays are great and have none of the encoding/compression issues that plague the UHDS.

My first thought while reading this was yay to The Last Detail and in 4k no less, only to realize it's coming from SF. I mean, between the scratched discs, high prices and their usual shitty encoding and compression issues, it's a pass for me. I'll wait for the eventual Indicator version.

Great news about The Company of Wolves, a personal favorite and one of the most lyrical and poetic horror movies ever made. It would be nice if Scream Factory can get together some good special features for this since the region B Blu-ray was bare bones other than a commentary track.

I assume that
A Kind of Loving (NSFW) (here's a
SFW trailer, though amusingly both entirely omit the presence of Thora Hird's character!) is the John Schlesinger film from the year before Billy Liar starring Alan Bates? I was kind of hoping that this would be something that Criterion would have gotten to, but it is nice to see it coming from some label. It is kind of an essential companion piece to the widescreen flights of fancy of Billy Liar, since this is a much more grounded story, though just as brutally scathing about the oppressive provincial shackles of social obligation versus the younger generation wanting to explore the somewhat illusory beckoning freedoms of 1960s, that are maybe always in the mind but have the power to affect the character's points of view about how trapped they feel that they are in their current circumstances. In the case of A Kind of Loving this is embodied magnificently by Thora Hird's controlling harridan of a mother-in-law figure fighting with Bates over the couple's new life, whilst in Billy Liar it gets extrapolated out into a kind of all encompassing societal malaise in which a dreamer is inevitably going to get crushed by their own internal(ised) flaws (cowardices?) as much as by the people around them dragging them back down to earth.
A Kind of Loving was not based on a Keith Waterhouse novel, though he adapted the Stan Barstow book with his screenplay, and then Billy Liar was fully based on Waterhouse's novel and adapted by him for the screen.

Other than a hopefully well encoded The Company of Wolves 4k, I'm excited for the Sonny Chiba set as it includes Shogun's Shadow, Samurai Reincarnation and The Fall of Ako Castle! I wonder who has the US rights for Gosha's Hunter in the Dark. If Criterion are still sitting on this, they might as well pass it on to Shout for a third Chiba set!

Sonny Chiba directed
Yellow Fangs (1990), curious if any label would be interested in releasing this.
