Second Run has Eroica, so that was never on the cards, but I hope someone does Bad Luck at some point.

And I have no objection to a Grzegorz over an Andrzej, especially if it's this Grzegorz and this film. Those who were impressed by Through and Through (Królikiewicz' feature debut) frankly won't know what hit them—The Dancing Hawk is a strong candidate for the title of the single most flat-out demented Polish film of its entire decade, and I include the work of another Andrzej (Żuławski) in that assessment. The mere fact that the great Zbigniew Rybczyński was its cinematographer alone signals that it's not exactly going to be drably run-of-the-mill documentary realism.

Any chance that this could be for Obayashi’s Confession? It at the very least seems like a title I would imagine Radiance would release.

Since they mention Almodovar in the email, could the clue be for Dark Habits?

The thing is, the hint is usually very literal, like 'ogre' and 'new generation'.

Confessions of a Police Captain (1971), directed by the label's favorite Damiano Damiani and starring Franco Nero, could be another good contender.

I'd love to see them releasing Kim Soo-yong (of Splendid Outing)'s Confession of an Actress (1967), but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

I doubt it as StudioCanal already released it and don't allow licenses for titles that are still in print.

The 'early work from Pedro Almodóvar' is probably going to be Matador, as it got a 4K restoration shown at Venice earlier this year, and would be licensed through Mercury Films (who Radiance also got their Buñuel titles through). Mercury also have Pepi, Luci, Bom but I'm not aware it has been restored yet (the master available on MUBI looks ropey, certainly not Blu-ray worthy).

Live Flesh has also been restored recently (and available through Pathé), so could be another option, but is a lot later than Matador and I was going with the 'early' distinction. I'd love to see Radiance do that one as well. High Heels would be fun, and also was restored some years ago, but for some reason I feel like it might not be this. Then again, Radiance do have a tendency to surprise us!

I don’t think High Heels even has an English friendly DVD, does it? I’d love that one too, but any upgraded Almodovar is an easy buy

The musical sequence in the middle of it might be the best moment from any of his films. Incredible Ryuichi Sakamoto score, too

Anyone know the status of Michael Tolkin’s The Rapture? Fascinating and oft-neglected, I could see it fitting Radiance quite well, though I can’t find any info on a possible (or existing) restoration. The digital HD master I bought via Apple is fine but quite dated.

It’s long OOP, but Umbrella brought out a R4 DVD back in 2010:

Edit: seems there was a 2005 German release with English subtitles too. That one's still floating around eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333302706739

I agree. The Rapture would make an excellent choice for Radiance. A unique film and very compelling. I’ve watched it a couple of times, and would love to have it on disc with supplemental features.

I haven’t see his “companion” film The New Age. Is it any good?

I didn't like it very much, but I watched it immediately after The Rapture, so perhaps it functions better with more space between viewings. You can read my thoughts on both films on the last page of the Faith thread here

I adore The New Age. Peter Weller is wonderful, and there is a beautiful symmetry with it and The Rapture

If you haven’t read it, PLEASE read his novel Against the Air

It bears repeating to drop title suggestions for films you want to see in Radiance's discord if you're a member or send them an email. I suggested two Tai Kato films to them, The Tale of Oiwa's Ghost and Blood of Revenge, and both got or are getting a release. Not suggesting I had anything to do with them coming out, but Fran or someone else at Radiance might feel passionate enough about The Rapture etc to chase it down and see if the materials are good enough and if it can be licensed for a reasonable price.

FYI this is available to order again (still on sale), as of the time of my posting this. There’s a note saying it’s temporarily out of stock, but that they’re taking orders while they wait for the inventory to arrive at their warehouse.

Rosi´s Christ Stopped at Eboli, theatrical and TV versions, might be a good fit for Radiance, UK rights permitting.

Criterion has both versions in the US.

Gaumont announced this title for their DVD on demand line in France. No bluray because there is no HD restoration, according to a post by 1kult, the Gaumont insider on the DVD Classik forum. I posted a question about Gaumont including the TV version, but regrettably there was no answer.

Was thinking it could be a Zulawski. I thought it would also be sneaky to tease something that had already been teased.

I suggested on BR.com this could be I Like Bats (from Severin's recent 2K restoration), and someone else suggested Nadja (from Grasshopper/Arbelos' recent 4K restoration). Either would be great fits for Radiance. It may well be the latter since it's 4K and could be optioned for UHD, and the telling sign is that Radiance recently dealt with Arbelos (Life is Cheap... But Toilet Paper is Expensive).

Re the teased vampire movie: I'd love it to be Near Dark but Studio Canal want that for themselves.

My guess would be Thirst (given Radiance's recent expansion into South Korean films and that Tartan's licenses finally seem to have expired).
