I think Nadja is an excellent guess
Haven't seen The Dancing Hawk but that sure sounds good to me!MichaelB wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:48 am Second Run has Eroica, so that was never on the cards, but I hope someone does Bad Luck at some point.
And I have no objection to a Grzegorz over an Andrzej, especially if it's this Grzegorz and this film. Those who were impressed by Through and Through (Królikiewicz' feature debut) frankly won't know what hit them—The Dancing Hawk is a strong candidate for the title of the single most flat-out demented Polish film of its entire decade, and I include the work of another Andrzej (Żuławski) in that assessment. The mere fact that the great Zbigniew Rybczyński was its cinematographer alone signals that it's not exactly going to be drably run-of-the-mill documentary realism.
No idea where you heard that Arrow owns the rights to Pin, but I can't see a scenario where they own that movie and are dumb enough to not release it on Blu-ray. It's not a pure horror movie but there is definitely demand for it among genre film fans.Maladroit Aggregator wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 8:45 pm Does Arrow still own the rights for Sandor Stern's Pin? Would love to see Radiance rescue this title.
Haha! I guessed that on Discord. A mega-production with 70mm prints struck
La maison des bois! Well, I wouldn't personally call it an epic, but it is seven hours long and desperately absent in English on home video.Finch wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 10:44 pm Surprised this wasn't posted yet but today's teaser was for "a French epic". All I could think of was Queen Margot; maybe La Roue since Napoleon is obviously off the table for the UK.
I'd like to think that that's a prime candidate for Criterion's move into international tv series.zedz wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 11:26 pm La maison des bois! Well, I wouldn't personally call it an epic, but it is seven hours long and desperately absent in English on home video.
Did they not release it previously? Just an assumption on my part.BoltzmannBrain wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 6:35 pmNo idea where you heard that Arrow owns the rights to Pin, but I can't see a scenario where they own that movie and are dumb enough to not release it on Blu-ray. They did release a DVD of it under their Arrowdrome line so I assume that’s why Maladroit is saying that they could have the rights.BoltzmannBrain wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 6:35 pmNo idea where you heard that Arrow owns the rights to Pin, but I can't see a scenario where they own that movie and are dumb enough to not release it on Blu-ray. A New Hollywood satire
Walter Matthau and Charles Grodin in Movers & Shakers, of course
That they released the movie over ten years ago hardly means that they own it, more than likely they just had it under license and the license has expired a long time ago. The DVD sports the logo of Lakeshore Entertainment so I'm thinking that's where it came from.Maladroit Aggregator wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 1:30 am Did they not release it previously? Incidentally, a poster on Bluray.com has claimed that StudioCanal has lost the rights to Near Dark and they've gone to the producer(s), and that's why there hasn't been a 4K UHD release yet. Supposedly he talked with a StudioCanal employee and SC is now trying to get the rights back, but who knows if it's true or not.Finch wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 9:09 pm Re the teased vampire movie: I'd love it to be Near Dark but Studio Canal want that for themselves.
I would imagine Criterion UK would probably be trying to get the ones that have already been released n the US.criterionsnob wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:53 pm Radiance loves Altman, so maybe a UHD of The Player? Doesn't look like there is a Blu of that one in the UK yet?
I had assumed that “New Hollywood” signified a film produced during the 60’s/70’scriterionsnob wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:53 pm Radiance loves Altman, so maybe a UHD of The Player? Doesn't look like there is a Blu of that one in the UK yet?
I saw that too and forgot about it. Either way, it seems like we might be waiting for that film for a while still.Incidentally, a poster on Bluray.com has claimed that StudioCanal has lost the rights to Near Dark and they've gone to the producer(s), and that's why there hasn't been a 4K UHD release yet.
