The Dancing Hawk is a strong candidate for the title of the single most flat-out demented Polish film of its entire decade, and I include the work of another Andrzej (Żuławski) in that assessment. The mere fact that the great Zbigniew Rybczyński was its cinematographer alone signals that it's not exactly going to be drably run-of-the-mill documentary realism.
Haven't seen The Dancing Hawk but that sure sounds good to me!

No idea where you heard that Arrow owns the rights to Pin, but I can't see a scenario where they own that movie and are dumb enough to not release it on Blu-ray. It's not a pure horror movie but there is definitely demand for it among genre film fans.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet but today's teaser was for "a French epic". All I could think of was Queen Margot; maybe La Roue since Napoleon is obviously off the table for the UK.

La maison des bois! Well, I wouldn't personally call it an epic, but it is seven hours long and desperately absent in English on home video.

They did release a DVD of it under their Arrowdrome line so I assume that’s why Maladroit is saying that they could have the rights.
Also quick side note but has anyone considered the Radiance French epic to be Historie(s) du cinema since it’s runtime is certainly large enough to be considered epic?

BFI's Napoleon is still in print, so no luck there, but Eureka's Les Miserables (1935) is now OOP, maybe a 1935/1958 combo edition on UHD? One can dream.

There's no chance of any UK label other than the BFI ever releasing Napoléon, for contractual reasons that go back many years before the BFI even started releasing things on home video.
But they did a fine job, so that's hardly a problem.

Speaking of Les Misérables, Robert Hossein of the label's recent Wicked Games set also directed one (1982, 3 hrs 20 mins), starring Lino Ventura as Jean Valjean.

The 1995 Les Miserables directed by Claude Lelouch would make me very happy. The only English-friendly Blu-ray version anywhere was in France as part of a box set, now OOP.

I doubt it’s any of those Hugo adaptations (especially since the Bernard had a UK release and the Gabin one was out via Olive and didn’t seem to move many copies), but maybe it could also be one of those historical Guitry films (though that set sold even worse for Arrow than the Chabrols, so still prob not) - none of these really seem like Radiance titles though

That they released the movie over ten years ago hardly means that they own it, more than likely they just had it under license and the license has expired a long time ago. The DVD sports the logo of Lakeshore Entertainment so I'm thinking that's where it came from.

Radiance loves Altman, so maybe a UHD of The Player? Doesn't look like there is a Blu of that one in the UK yet?

I would imagine Criterion UK would probably be trying to get the ones that have already been released n the US.

I saw that too and forgot about it. Either way, it seems like we might be waiting for that film for a while still.

I would love to see a UHD of Smile. It would fit with their poaching of former Fun City titles for upgrades.
