What time are we going to find out? I'm interested if we are getting the Zatoichi films one by one, or in a big set.

Shouldn't be more than a half hour.

Well, Criterion usually announces precisely at 4:46:32 PM, so there must be some catastrophe holding them up.
Jeez, man. Go smoke a cigarette, go to the toilet, have a wank, or run around the block. By the time you're done, they'll be announced. What time are we going to find out. [-(

Just don't do these all at once.

I actually did all of those earlier in precisely that order. I wish I had eyes in the back of my head as it seems like there is someone watching me. [-X

Picking up from the other thread: on the subject of possible Todd Haynes titles, why does Safe seem like such a long-shot for Criterion to release? It's a relatively recent title by a name director who they have worked with (at least on extras) in the past, there has already been a DVD release (with commentary ready to port), the film was on a number of critics' best of the '90s lists, it has a strong central performance by an actress (Julianne Moore) whose stature has only grown in the intervening years...I might just be biased (I loathe Far From Heaven, and if that ends up being released by CC [likely, given the extent of the Focus deal], it would be nice if Safe, a film I much prefer, could be Blu'd in the bargain), but I think there's a real possibility this will show up somewhere down the line.

I don't consider Safe a longshot at all.

I think it's the likeliest Haynes film.

Just wait until that becomes the standard dual format price point...

Absolutley I agree Domino. It's going to be just over $100 at the Barnes and Noble sale too for 25 films, gigantic deal. It's funny they are all just getting one spine number, but that's the precedent they started setting with Etaix
and jin - all the other DF releases are at the standard price so no increases!

Wow. Not a bad deal for the amount of film in the package, but not exactly cheap either. Oh well, it's Zatoichi.

Great, now every film club vote is going to have a 15% chance of including a Zatoichi film.

Automatic exclusion if you have to buy a $180 box set to see the film.

Really? I find that totally believable. I wouldn't mind the end of Eclipse and just bringing everything into the mainline anyway

It's only one spine number, so I think we should count it as one film

So when it comes up, Mr Sausage will give us all two weeks to watch all 25 films

Not only are they switching to dual format, they're also listing iTunes & Hulu as "editions" & (so far) City Lights & Tokyo Story are the only November titles getting released on Hulu. I guess they're sticking w/ free SD uploads for Zatoichi?

(Checks to make sure this is the random speculation thread)
Maybe Eclipse will be going Dual Format as well?
Nevermind, I see the other thread covered it
