Was that the same award that Godard got last year?

Ugh. Had much higher expectations for her.

They gave Godard a special Palme d'Or. I'm not certain if Godard ever heard the news.

Best Actress to...
Emily Beecham from Little Joe
So the UK press will have something to celebrate even if the Ken Loach does not place.

I suppose the best case scenario is Bong winning the Palme. Tarantino's probably in play, alongside the Dardennes. Diop might win it, but you had Sciamma right there.

The Dardennes have officially won all the awards (including the Palme twice) except the Jury Prize.

"Hey, the Dardenne have a new movie this year, we have to select them !"
"Ok, now, which prize do we give them this year ?"
* take out a dart board *

Maybe Diop and Ly will tie for the Jury, leaving Bong and Tarantino battling for the last two.

I can’t believe that director award. Unbelievable— if ever there was a creative talent so completely not in need of another Cannes award... I think the Oscar lean is over for this category though!

There's a good prediction for whatever Cannes edition in which they premiere their next film.

Two films: Les miserables and Bacurau

Forgot Filho was still there. I'll go with it being between Diop and Bong with Tarantino (hopefully) just hanging out.

The jury certainly seems to be spreading the awards out. It is nice that the award potentially assures some sort of wider distribution for Les misérables now, whilst I pretty much assumed Bacarau was going to turn up!

Every single of their movies have been selected at Cannes since Rosetta in 99 and except for La fille inconnue (legitimately an inferior movie for them), all of them received a prize (though Le fils got a Best actor).

Timbuktu did, and it's an independent award.
Banderas seems like a good pick; he also seems a lock for an Oscar nomination.
