Regarding the extras:
In addition to 'Il était une fois... Les enfants du paradis' (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1388396/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and the before and after restoration comparison, we were commissioned by Second Sight Films to produce two new features for the DVD/Blu-ray:
THEATRE, LOVE AND WAR:
The story of the making of Les Enfants du Paradis. It pays particular attention to the collaboration of Marcel Carné, Jacques Prévert and Alexandre Trauner. Interviewees include:
Yves Barsacq:
Barscacq is the son of Léon Barsacq who collaborated with Trauner on the sets.
Jean-Pierre Berthomé:
Berthomé is a film historian, specialist in production design and the author of a book on Trauner.
NT Binh:
Binh is the author of a book on Prévert and cinema and the co-author of a new book on Carné, Prévert and Trauner.
Michel Chion:
Chion is a musician, critic and the author of several books on sound in cinema (one of which deals with the spoken word and pays particular attention to Arletty’s delivery of Prévert’s dialogue).
Marianne de Fleury:
de Fleury is director of exhibitions at the Cinémathèque Française, and curator of the forthcoming exhibition on Les Enfants du Paradis.
Claire Heggen:
Heggen is a mime and director who studied under Étienne Decroux and here talks about the mime aspect of the film as well as Jean-Louis Barrault.
Tania Lesaffre:
Lesaffre is an actress who appeared in one of Carné’s later films, was a friend of the director and who represents his estate.
Jean-Gilles Malliarakis:
Malliarakis is a historian and the son of Mayo, the costume designer of Les Enfants du Paradis.
Philippe Morisson:
Morisson runs the Marcel Carné website and is the co-author of a new monograph on Carné’s films with Prévert and Trauner.
Didier Naert:
Naert is a production designer and was the assistant of Trauner (he is also Trauner’s nephew).
Agnès Poirier:
Poirier is a political commentator and film critic for the British and French press.
Geneviève Sellier:
Sellier is the author of a monograph on Les Enfants du Paradis.
Michel Souvais.
Souvais was Arletty's secretary and the author of a book about her.
Andrzej Żuławski:
Żuławski talks about why for him Les Enfants du Paradis is the best French film ever.
RESTORING A CLASSIC:
The restoration feature was shot at Eclair laboratories and features Christian Lurin and Charlotte Quemy (who both led the restoration) guiding the viewer through demonstrations of the various technical stages. Léon Rousseau also talks about restoring the sound.
Hope that helps!

They'll need to do D.A.R.Y.L. before that.
(Although I must admit that it would be nice to see Short Circuit in its correct aspect ratio after only being familiar with it through cropped TV showings!)

I saw it at the time and if I remember rightly it's a typical 80s anamorphically-shot film that's clearly composed so it can easily be cropped into 4:3 without losing anything vital. See also almost anything directed by Blake Edwards in that decade.
And Fisher Stevens's sub-Sellers Indian character was excruciating.

Along with They Live, this is one of my favourite genre films of the 1980s. Pretty cool that they're both getting what looks to be great blu-ray releases in november. The 45 minute interview is such a great addition, as Hill has hardly ever contributed anything to any of the home video releases of his films. I believe there was a lenghty interview on one of the discs in Optimum's Walter Hill collection, and he reluctantly agreed to be interviewed for the Ultimate Edition of The Warriors, but only did that because Paramount agreed to let him do the DC. Southern Comfort also has the best Ry Cooder score. It should sound good on blu-ray...

I haven't seen it but even though Hill's work is touch and go in the 80s, the ad's giant blown up image of Fred Ward is intimidating me to pre-order
And Colin, Short Circuit's been out on Blu for a while over here, and probably cheaper to import than whatever SS is charging. And so's the sequel, if you really hate yourself

I think you'll dig it. It's one of Hill's best.

English SDH is a new venture for Second Sight, not before time.
Great film and looking forward to it.

Not new, as it's available on "Picnic at Hanging Rock", although it's rare for them to include.

Given Daniel Bird and David Mackenzie's involvement with both labels, it wouldn't surprise me.

Interesting unrelated tidbit: SS were asked on their FB page if they'd look into Heaven's Gate, they replied "Interesting, very interesting". Might a port of the Crit with decent extras be on the horizon?

I was the one who asked (and it was regarding both Heaven's Gate and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot). Thinking about it now, I'm not entirely sure Heaven's Gate would be passed by the BBFC uncut.

Very very unlikely. It was cut on previous occasions, and the film's onscreen mistreatment of animals was notorious at the time.
