“Thematically connected French films”?

In 1994, [Assayas] made his artistic breakthrough with Cold Water, a portrait of the unruliness of youth that draws inspiration from his own life. The film originated as a commissioned piece for All the Boys and Girls of Their Age (Tous les garçons et les filles de leur âge), a French television series focused on adolescence that also included work by Claire Denis and Chantal Akerman. Aside from the subject matter, the rules of the game were that each episode contain a party scene using rock music and be shot on Super 16 mm within an eighteen to twenty-four-day time span.

I doubt it is this collection, but that would be an amazing coup. I know the Akerman film has been recently restored, and it would be great to get the original Assayas film and the Claire Denis film as well.

Adorable Menteuse, Les Bonnes Femmes, and Near Orouët hopefully (probably not but a man can dream).

That would be incredible, but I think music rights may be holding one or more of these up. If Radiance came through, it would be the release of the year.

Criterion already released the Assayas film in the UK

My understanding is that the film shown in the series is a significantly different film from the theatrical release.

It's kind of like the television / theatrical versions of Kieslowski's Short Film About Killing / Love. Though in this case the two versions even have different titles. Likewise, Techine's Le Chene et le roseau is quite different from (and half the length of) Wild Reeds.

Question about Histoire(s) du cinema: has there been a restoration? How will they handle the use of SD sources?

Not sure about the whole thing but Japan recently got a Blu-Ray release of Moments choisis des Histoire(s) du cinema which you can get a look at here

True, but the term in isolation has typically referred to the French New Wave and I see no reason to expect a French-forward label to be talking about something else

They are also a label that loves to release Japanese titles, so I could also see them referring to the Japanese New Wave

Combined with the ROZ clue, the mind quickly goes to Jacques Rozier but perhaps it's Deville on Radiance at last?

Rozier is on the Criterion Channel already, no?

We know that Janus/Criterion have US rights, but whether they also have UK rights has never been confirmed

Combined with Radiance saying they were outbid for the Rozier films, it is not a big leap to assume that Janus also got the UK rights.

I could be wrong but I don't actually think Godard "reconstructed" Moments choisis for 35mm, it's just SD video transferred to 35mm. The series proper is SD video (presumably PAL) and I imagine a BD release would be upscaled to 1080i50. The degree of manipulation involved makes a rebuild from HD sources completely unfathomable.

If they are speaking about “new wave” in a musical sense, perhaps it is this frequently requested title, though I’m not sure it fits Radiance’s profile. AFAIK it meets the criteria of “never on Blu-ray” and “never on UK DVD”. Don’t know that it’s been “newly restored”.

They weren’t actually outbid though, they just couldn’t reach a deal with the rights holders when they posted their initial Failed Licenses list:

We love Rozier's breezy comedies, particularly his masterful Near Orouët, but sadly the rightsowner could not reach a deal with us.

My memory has gone to hell. I stand corrected.

The fact that there are bidding wars...or at least resistant rightsholders for Rozier films warms my heart. C'mon Criterion, get with the discs already. I own the Potemkin set, but one of the films has a very annoying encoding error (heavy pixelization).

That unfortunately rules Une femme est une femme out. The 4K restoration's been ready for some time now, but StudioCanal didn't jump on it quickly like they did with Le Mépris, so I hoped maybe it could come from Radiance. I know Criterion will get a 4K out when they feel like it in like five year, but I'm dying to revisit that film. Speaking of Godard, another one of his films that I think is really up Radiance's alley is Rise and Fall of a Small Film Company. It was made for TV on video, so not really a visual stunner (Capricci only put out a DVD in France years ago), but to have an English-friendly release packed with supplements would be delightful.
