My replacement slipcover for the "Marienbad" blu-ray was so much better than the one I received. I didn't realize the DVDs had a similar issue, though.

Criterion should offer DVD/Blu-ray two packs. Last week, Disney's new Snow White disc came in a DVD/Blu-ray two pack, and in stores there are some packaged in Blu-ray sized packages, and others in DVD sized packages. Maybe Criterion should do this, and give customers the option of ordering their case in whatever size they want. That would seem to make everyone at happy... Or at least me.

Thats the problem isn't it, that gap between "everyone" and "me", if only we could fill it.

Okay, so who
wouldn't be satisfied if Criterion offered combo packs in both Blu-ray and DVD-style packaging options...?

I wouldn't, and to be honest i don't see the point. Why would you use the SD if you have the Blu, and why would you use the blu if you don't have an appropriate player, but this song and dance has been done before on the board and I'm not in the mood to go over this tired hat.
edit: or just point to that board

it's almost 2010 already. Just eliminate SD's.

they don't make laserdiscs anymore either and according to someone on this board a few weeks ago, Criterion only continued to make and release LD's for a year after the introduction of DVDs.
Blu Ray players are $100 now (what DVD players were 4 years ago), and Blu Rays are just as comparably cheap. Time to move on.

Just like their jump to Blu-Ray, I think they're waiting for a big company to make the first move to stick to Blu-Ray only. As much as I'd like everything to come out on Blu-Ray, the reality is many people don't have a Blu-Ray player yet or the proper televisions. And laserdisc wasn't a format as popular as VHS, and if you remember, VHS's were still coming out in vast quantities for at least two to three years after the introduction of the DVD.

Isn't the Bluray market share still in the single digits anyway?
Let's only produce Bluray discs. Now that's a great business decision.
Plus, a combo disc set will invariably ruin the cover art/design (bringing it back to the original topic

)

Yes, please stick to the topic at hand, folks. If you want to discuss Blu-ray/DVD combos, please do it in
an appropriate thread.

I just got an email from Mulvaney about the replacement cases for early Blu-ray titles. He said the Third Man cases are ready, but the rest won't be until November. They're going to cost $5 each, which includes shipping.

Same here, with some extra info:
Jon Mulvaney wrote:We currently have THE THIRD MAN replacement cases in and we will be receiving the rest come November. The cost for a replacement case is $5, which includes shipping. If you would like to go ahead and purchase an upgraded case for THE THIRD MAN simply make a payment of $5 to the email address
[email protected] through PayPal, providing your mailing address and item needed in the message field, and we'll send it out to you! If you prefer to receive [it and other] cases together, I would advise waiting until we have all cases available and then making the payment of [$5 each] through Paypal.

That's good news, indeed. So, it looks like it'll be $45 to have all 9 digipack releases replaced, if one so desires.

Sounds a little bit steep to me just to replace cases. I was hoping they'd be no more than the cost of shipping since the original product was so bad. I think I'll pass.

Some of you may not appreciate the timing of this, but I just noticed that someone finally uploaded the high res image of
The Lower Depths from the AK100 set on Criterion's webpage. I have updated
the huge ass tapestry that I posted a month ago accordingly.
