Radiance is looking for short films to include on releases, per latest Tweet. They also seem to have leaked their logo in a URL link. Looks nice!

They want shorts to match with this list. Any guesses what films could be based on this list? I'm hoping for Moodysson's Together for "Commune lifestyle," and "Fucking Åmål" for "Girl high school coming of age."
LATEST BRIEFS:
- Murderous women
- Buddy movie / the open road
- Commune lifestyle / revolutionary feminism
- Sniper / police procedural
- Italian gothic
- Girl high school coming of age
- Murder mystery
- Corruption / mafia
- Neo noir/erotic thriller

Aren't we already expecting Arrow to release a Moodysson boxset?

For reference, I surveyed their tweets so far and these are the countries that have had a definite "deal confirmed" tweet from Radiance:
2 x Italy
1 x Sweden
1 x Estonia
2 x France
1 x US
2 x Japan

There're also two tweets, one with a picture of a letter with a German stamp "hoping" it's a new acquisition, and one with US flags about "getting close to the final piece of the launch puzzle."

You didn't count the flags...

(Each flag is one title)

Yes we did confirm that German deal.

Yes, Arrow are confirmed to have Fucking Amal at least.

Murderous woman could be Obayashi's Sada? 'Sniper / police procedural' = Bo Widerberg's Man on the Roof?

Has it been confirmed if Radiance is going to do only dual region releases or will there be US and UK exclusives? (If they are only doing dual region releases then it can't be Sada as Janus/Criterion has that in the US. And given the success of House, I am surprised they haven't released it on Blu-ray)

Would this be correct then?

16 Japanese films
4 French films
7 American films
5 Italian films
1 Estonian film
1 Swedish film

Is Radiance also interested in releasing films from India (whether it be Bollywood, Tollywood, etc.) or is it still difficult to deal with the Indian film corporations, as described by Lee Kline back in 2017? I honestly just want someone to release Sholay on 4K or Blu.

If the French titles are just Jess Franco, I swear to God…

Was also just doing this and that matches my count, save for an additional single US flag I think I missed last count, and there's another tweet with 3 disc emoji and no country flags, so presumably that's three more releases. Plus at least 1 German film confirmed above.

I don't think it has been confirmed one way or the other but I didn't know that Criterion had Sada. Considering the popularity of House, I'm surprised that they haven't released any more Obayashi at all though thankfully Third Window are putting them out now in the UK at least. There are a few with Toho, primarily Bound for the Fields, the Mountains, and the Seacoast, that I'd love to see Radiance pick up.

I don't know the answer but the lack of any physical releases for S.S. Rajamouli films in the wake of RRR probably speaks volumes.

Hasn't Mai Zetterling been suggested? "Commune lifestyle / revolutionary feminism" could be for Flickorna.

I did mention her as a good candidate, however I'm not sure that "commune lifestyle" fits Flickorna unless you consider an acting troupe a commune. Especially if the brief lists the theme in terms of importance, i.e. "commune lifestyle" taking precedent over "revolutionary feminism".

And well, "Sniper / police procedural" would be fairly dead on for Bo Widerberg's The Man on the Roof. So if we're getting a Swedish film my money would be on that based on those briefs.

From Twitter:
Unless a contract unexpectedly comes in, it's looking like the launch slate years are:

1. 1968
2. 1968
3. 1970
4. 1971
5. 1975
6. 1976
7. 1976
8. 1990
9. 1995
10. 2020
It looks like The Man on the Roof is one of the titles.

And we know the first spine title is Italian. Run Man Run is supposed to be a forthcoming Eureka (or even MoC?) release. A Quiet Place In The Country has to be a strong contender given it's directed by Elio Petri of Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion and stars Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave. Danger Diabolik does not have a UK Blu-Ray and Paramount's UK DVD was released in 2007. Can anyone think of other contenders?

OK - in an Instagram post showing the covers of magazines consulted / combed for reviews etc., the Sight and Sound from Feb 97 is shown. Looking through the review sections there are two films which stand out to me as possibles for the 1995 result: Like Grains of Sand (Nagisa no Sindbad) and Picture Bride.

Like Grains of Sand, or anything by Hashiguchi, would be amazing. I’ve been meaning to watch some of his films for a while now

I would love for the 1971 film to be Sympathy for the Underdog. The last release was HVE's 2005 DVD, and it's Kinji Fukasaku. But I have no idea if Toei ever did an HD master or how long ago that would have been.

The countries for the first 10 releases have been revealed:

2 x Italian
1 x Japanese
3 x American
2 x French
1 x Swedish
1 x German

My dream of seeing more Dutch and Canadian films in HD is thwarted again.

Really curious to see if the American titles skew towards studio films that have never had home video releases

A few new ideas for future releases, from the "it just struck me" department:
- Lester James Peries - for example, Gamperaliya and Baddegama (Village in the Jungle). Nidhanaya is apparently with the WCF:
http://dungarpurfilms.com/nidhanaya.html
- Dong fu ren (The Arch, 1968), dir. Shu Shuen Tong, starring Lisa Lu and Roy Chiao, DoP Subrata Mitra, co-edited by Les Blank
- Bab el Chams/Gate of the Sun, Yousry Nasrallah
- Adoor Gopalakrishnan
- Wen Jiang - Devils on the Doorstep, In the Heat of the Sun
