Not having seen the movie, I pieced together a simple version with the material available on Bakshi's site:

I really like that first cover. I really wish Criterion would pick it up. Fantastic fucking film and it would be a great addition to the collection... Especially as the first animated film.

maybe they could somehow convince Disney to sell them the rights to Uncle Remus.

Well that coonskin request was quick. Now can someone get one for the Nigerian film Outkast?

Again, in spite of my unfamiliarity with the film, I'd still take a crack at it, but haven't found even a single image to reference. Sorry!

I don't believe he was being serious about that last one.

Here. Also do Chico Ejiro’s Black Maria, if you please, although you can’t find the date for it anywhere. That Web site has many, many, many Nigerian videos for sale, although I woudn’t trust it. Good luck. Peace.

I don't usually do this type of thing, but I have had this idea for the forthcoming Bottle Rocket dvd for a while. The idea was that the cover art could be the notepad that Dignan uses to document his 50 year plan. I don't think it's successful as a dvd cover but I decided to share it anyway. I think it might make a better booklet cover.

I've always figured that the eventual Bottle Rocket cover will be some variation of the title screen.

That said, the notebook cover isn't bad, except for the area where the spiral is, because that gives you blank white space.

I made these up last night. I wish I could have found a higher res photo for Bumbai, but I couldn't.

Hey, those are pretty good! And I like that they disguise the fact that these films are actually a deadly serious trilogy about terrorism—just like the Eros International versions of the latter two. Peace.

It'd be great without the faces.

On a side note: how'd you do the neon tubing? Photoshop? A font (unlikely, but what a bitchin' font that'd have to be) with photoshop afterwards?

I think it looks good even with the faces. That title treatment is just too awesome.

That "Bottle Rocket" and "Alphaville" covers are some of the best I've seen anywhere. Great work, guys!

Wow, that Alphaville cover... =D>

That's the quality of work that's going to stop this thread cold for a while, methinks.

Man that looks good. Could you post one without the faces (to compare, although it looks great with them)? I think this captures the feeling of the film better than the current cover.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

@kaujot: No, just Photoshop. I had some screen caps kicking around my computer (Actually, I think they were from Pierrot le fou as a matter of fact) of neon letters, and I just imitated them by first using the pen tool and then coloring them in.

And some other stuff just for fun:
