It could also be the long-gestating release of The French Lieutenant's Woman.

I'd imagine the Napoleon restoration will premiere at a major festival in the classics section prior to any home video release; so I doubt that's the title he was in the office for. Probably Speedy; since it was in the New Year's clue.

Criterion just added a Jonas Mekas-related image (ported over from Bomb Magazine). Probably only because it's Pasolini-related but a guy can dream. The Mekas archives are kept by Canyon Cinema (where else?) who Criterion dealt with for the Brakhage sets.

I'm guessing this means we're getting PLAY and INVOLUNTARY, fresh off a U.S. touring retrospective of Östlund's entire oeuvre. THE GUITAR MONGALOID and his short films should show up as extras on these discs. Östlund is a really fascinating and promising filmmaker, so this news is very exciting.

As with pretty much every closet guest, he was probably just in town and had time to drop in for free stuff.

If they're just doing the film scans now it may be another year or so for the upgrade. But great to see it's officially in the works.

Yeah, he was here for a retro of his films at Lincoln Center.

How so?

I was referring to the New Year's drawing, with the two suns and one moon meaning Two Days One Night (which is what I'm assuming this picture indicates) while the moon doubles for Moonrise Kingdom, which we can all agree is inevitable.

That was a conjoined clue, which also happened for Rosemary's Baby and Harold and Maude. Double clues do not exist.

Harold Lloyd and Preston Sturges

Maybe The Sin of Harold Diddlebock will be coming with Speedy? (That would be a lot of Sturges right in a row.) Of course, it could just be a funny picture they decided to share.

Well we already know that a "Harold Lloyd Talkies" Box Set is coming as per his granddaughter (described being worked on "next", i.e. after The Freshman). So presumably we'll see it as part of that rather than as an extra on a solo release (really, the only one it would have made sense to per up with is The Freshman, and the box set is perhaps the reason why it wasn't).

I wasn't aware of the confirmation on the Talkies set (or I forgot). Thanks!

But, considering potential lag, it's possible her work had already finished on speedy, and the next project from her perspective was the talkies.

I guess one good thing about them abandoning the two never-materialized Czech New Wave Eclipses is that this will surely come out on Blu-ray now

But there were THREE be-pearled oysters on the beach in the 2012 New Years cartoon. That HAS TO MEAN two more Czech New Wave sets are coming.

Well that's excellent news - as it means they've realized that there is a far superior print of Valerie than what was put out by Second Run / Hulu+. I would hope/infer a blu-ray would be forthcoming rather than an Eclipse set.

Still thinks the Pearls referred to Tabu
