Always seemed like an oddly overlooked film. DeSica directed, Loren is very effective and won an Oscar, Belmondo solid in a small role. Terrific film of what war evils are really like. Yet I almost never hear it mentioned. The title may appear simplistic, but it's a film about how the daughter becomes a woman.
Worth tracking down.

Maybe it's already been posted, but this one has always made me crazy. Awkwardly shoving Casper Van Dien's 15 fleeting minutes of fame into the empty space between the girls, standing on a chair in the middle of the dancefloor apparently.

EDIT: Wait a second....that is Matt Keeslar, not Casper Van Dien...did Matt Keelar even have a 15 fleeting minutes of fame? Not to my knowledge...what the heck? Why is he shoehorned into the theatrical poster? I need the lore.

I remember him from Gregg Araki's Splendor and Scream 3. One of a huge wave of blandly attractive actors in their 20s the late '90s and early '00s foisted on us. I thought he was in Legally Blonde too, but that was Matthew Davis. Casper van Dien is not even in The Last Days of Disco. He was too busy being "Crewcut Hunk" in Casper Meets Wendy.

I hope Keeslar's doing well in his new career as an instructor of urology!

You say he's a urology instructor? Hmmm.....I wonder if he'd wear the eye patch if asked. Still what business does he have being the ghost of discos past? In my twisted imagination Polygram Video decided that the cover looked too sapphic, and this was their attempt to turn it into a proper rom-com? The mind boggles.

Can only imagine how many prompts led to... this.

I'm liking all of these but the retro vibe of the third one catches the spirit of this trash classic the best.

I don't know the film but I have no idea what that second cover is showing. Some kind of X-ray I presume, but that image alone would in no way entice me to want to check out the film. Quite the opposite really.

Gabel is credited first on IMDb as well; given how prominent his narration is and how Dean is mostly present in still photographs, that's probably accurate. The back cover lists this thing as being in color which it certainly shouldn't be. Has it been colorized for this release? Does the footage now look like the cover?!

Another mystery is the 1.78:1 aspect ratio listed. The documentary is readily available on-line in the 1.37:1 ratio (which is how it's categorized on IMDb as well). However, it appears that Altman (and/or George W. George) framed all of the new interviews shot to work in a widescreen presentation (same with the end credits) - too much headroom for a 1.37:1 framing - but the majority of the newsreel/B-roll clips and photographs would definitely be compromised by cropping the top and bottom of the frame. Strange.

It was reasonably well received, and there was some goodwill towards Brooks, who had two hugely acclaimed hit movies to his name but had not directed a film in a while. Having said that, I have seen this and I can't remember a thing about it.
