Speaking as someone who is more likely to back alleged victims, I would nonetheless remind members that there is a thread devoted to Hollywood abuse accusations in Infighting and Navel Gazing, which is not a suppressive ghetto of free speech, but rather a means by which movie discussions can stay on point and still allow conversations on the subject of sexual abuse among powerful public figures to flourish in the margins. Also, when it comes to gallows humor toward disliked stars on this forum--however obviously unintended as a bona fide death wish, whether directed at Selena Gomez or Woody Allen--consider its expression here tantamount to joking about terrorism in the airport security line.

With that said, I want actively support/buy a ticket for a Woody Allen for the first time in ages.

Good rule of thumb: Before posting anything on the internet about Woody Allen, ask yourself these two questions:

1. If it is eventually proven that he didn't do what he's accused of, will you regret having said it?
2. If it is eventually proven that he did do what he's accused of, will you regret having said it?

If the answer to either question is yes, keep it to yourself.

The guy can certainly have a negative opinion on Woody and share it here, provided it’s relevant to the thread, but when he literally calls for violence against someone-it’s not relevant anywhere.

I hadn't heard about Javier Bardem's comments last month linked in the more recent article, but wow, that's the kind of full-throated defense I wish more actors had the bravery to express

On one side, you have Bardem and Law thoroughly defending him, but only a short time ago, people like Colin Firth, Rebecca Hall or Ellen Page were on the exact opposite side.
It's hard to understand what to do with it.

The whole shelving of A Rainy Day in New York by Amazon, of all companies, would be a comedy of errors, except that the Farrow family have been permanently scarred by Allen's relationship with Soon-Yi Previn whilst still in a relationship with Mia Farrow. I always felt very highly of Allen until that horrific display of appallingly bad judgement and disregard by Allen to Farrow, their children & Soon-Yi. I have no opinion in the matters relating to Dylan Farrow because its virtually impossible to given it amounts to he said/she said but I am very sympathetic to the family.

It hasn't stopped me watching Woody Allen's films and judging them on their merit, despite my disdain of the man. Hell, I can never stop loving Annie Hall and so much of Allen's earlier work. What a talent the man has been (and it still can show glimmers of his earlier self) and that over decades he gave me so much pleasure at the cinema and re-watching my favourites on Blu Ray. But I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for what he is going through now based on what he did to the Farrows in relation to Soon-Yi.

A Rainy Day in New York, like all other films caught up in the whirlpool of #MeToo should be released and let the public decide for themselves. I'm sure most of the effected films would simply fail and go into obscurity, rarely referred to other than their connection to #MeToo.

Shelving films is akin to burning books that are not considered 'appropriate or suitable' and we all know how that ended in Germany of the 1930s.

I hadn't heard about it either, which is funny because when somebody criticizes Allen you can see it everywhere.

That's about as much as all of his films since Midnight in Paris have made in the US combined.

I hope Woody wins but I guess this all but confirms that a perfectly good Tim Chalamet movie is buried for good

I suspect Amazon will offer to settle the suit by returning rights for the film over to Allen

If the contract for making it was that it was going to screen somewhere then Amazon holding it is a breach of contract. There's nothing really to hope for here.
