LOL yeah sure, they aaaaaalways meant it to go to Netflix, that’s why there was zero mention of it until after the trailer was dropped and bombed

This article on Mashable indicated that this film was streaming-only back on June 8th, and Bloody Disgusting was reporting that it would be on streaming day-and-date and that they could not confirm further details months ago. Not sure if Netflix was somehow in a post-trailer release bidding war, but seems the plan was streaming (and not theatrical) quite a bit before the trailer.

Confusingly, Blu-ray/DVD/VOD details for September have been released, which wouldn’t make sense if this was a Netflix film. Commenters on the Bloody Disgusting news story can’t quite make sense of it either

Maybe it was initially supposed to stream on Peacock with a theatrical release, as Universal has done with other films recently, like the JLo classic-to-be Marry Me? But then Netflix, maybe SUPER desperate for content to stop the bleeding of subscribers, came in with a big bid that Universal couldn't say no to?

Yeah, everything else made by this subsidiary of Universal has been either on Peacock or else a DTV release. I wouldn't be surprised if they were going to put it out on VOD already, but this definitely smells like a Netflix acquisition that Universal was all too happy to let go for cheap
