I've added all of those, though I put the Mandoki in 2005.

I'm confused where you're seeing that IMDb "sorted" those last two as 2004 and 2005. They both show up for me as 2003

As I mentioned in 2003 list, a few films end up getting grouped into a year other than the one listed under the title when you use the database and form a list & use the release date to sort. Whether this is because of a festival screening vs release date iissue or whether it's that a diffferent ccountry''s release date is triggering it or maybe by the date of film's first release on disc, I haven't been able to figure out yet. (I doon't have IMDb Pro).

I'm just curious where you're seeing that IMDb puts those two films in anything other than 2003. I don't have IMDb Pro either. If I do a search of films I've seen that were released in 2003, that's where I'll see Weeping Camel for instance

I use the IMDB app on my iPad (which has started automatically Quitting randomly lately, perhaps because I haven't upgraded to ios 26). To start my list I search under my rating first, then sort by release date & I get the films I rated organized by year. There's usually one or two mistakes per year.

In going over eligible titles, I came across one of those early Youtube faves:

Somehow the HD remaster doesn't work as well as when it looked like a VHS tape transfer & needed subtitles for the lyrics because the audio wasn't that clear. I'd vote for it, but again I already had to rule out shorts and limit documentaries to keep my list @ 25.

I'm also wondering if the deadline is firm or are things going to be extended into the weekend this time around. I have a bunch of 2004 dvd's I've taken out from the library that I haven't watched yet and all the Pialat's are leaving the Criterion Channel on the 30th that I also haven't watched yet and feeling conflicted on what to binge watch next.

I generally don't extend the monthly list deadlines more than like a day if someone requests it. How much more time do you think you need, and how would others feel about that?

Also, my #1 film from this year is a short!

I think we should keep the standard deadline. There are dozens of films from the year I wish I had time to watch. But we’ve also got to move on to the next year.

I dunno, the 2005 thread is already open. You could be watching 2005 films right now. In my mind, extending the deadline would mainly just mean everyone having to wait longer to see the results. Also, if you took a few extra days watching 2004 films, that's less time you'd get to watch 2005 films during July

I already have 25 for my list so I can stop whenneever, but I was asking because it would be nice to know if an extension is coming beforehand rather later this time around for the reason I mentioned. As a holiday weekend is coming up, I would assume people would like to end it before the weekend.

Well let's just end it at the end of the month like usual. I would typically post results the morning of the 1st but if any last-minute voters need a little more time, I could push it to later in the day on the 1st

Domino, point me to your defense of that film. Swo, great job, as usual. Me: shocked that Untergang placed and then placed so high. What, besides Bruno Ganz’s performance, is there to like about this film?

I don’t know if I’ve produced a full on write up for it but if I had one of those NYT ballots for best films of the century so far, it’d be in my top ten. Quite frankly I think almost everyone else on Earth is wrong about this one (there’s me and, uh, Armond White ), this is the post-9/11 movie for me. Wenders also offers such intriguing yet subtle perspectives on how Michelle Williams’ character navigates the worlds of the homeless as an outsider (her use of technology as a tool to both participate but distance herself has aged flawlessly). I was not surprised at all when two decades later he made a whole film about the quiet, unadorned life, as there’s a kindred shot in this film of Williams sitting alone in her empty room at the shelter with only her iBook that has always stuck with me on a deep level

In a year of great films, where most of my 11-20 could've been a top ten another year, it still made my top ten as well. I wrote it up here
