It's at the very least indefinitely delayed.

As some doubt was expressed on another forum, I can confirm the UK release of Dial M for Murder (in the new Hitchcock set with Strangers on a Train and North by Northwest) includes the 3D version. At least that's what is very clearly stated on the individual case (though oddly, given it's surely a big selling-point, not on the front of the set's slipcase) - I won't be able to watch it that way for a long time!

Thanks, I was wondering that myself. I have another question: According to The Alfred Hitchcock Wiki, the German edition of this boxset is missing the isolated score on North by Northwest. I assume the version of NxNW in UK box will be identical to the UK or American standalone disc (which includes the isolated score). I just want to be sure.

Thirdly, is Strangers on a train identical to the US BD (with the US cut in HD, and the British cut as a supplement in SD)?

Again, just going off the cases, North by Northwest lists "Music-Only Audio Track" and Strangers on a Train "Preview Version" with a caveat that special features "may not be in High Definition." (I won't be able to check the latter as though I can play Blu-rays my projector isn't HD yet.)

I find this hard to believe since the Warner discs internationally include German options, so the German disc should be identical, and have the isolated track.

I just checked, and all you have to do is click "Tonspur nu mit Musik" on the menu screen to access the Isolated Score. I don't know what that guy was missing...

Warner are releasing a bunch of Steelbook classic titles in the UK on 28th January for those that like them [I believe all come with an "Ultraviolet" Digital Copy FWIW]

Well, we haven't had the new Casablanca yet, so that's nice.

So the US release of Grand Hotel gets a crappy colorized publicity shot of Garbo and The Great Profile for a cover and the UK gets original poster art (like the US DVD). Well, preordered it on the strength of the cover alone (ditto The Jazz Singer).

I wish I didn't already have so many of the other titles on Blu. The Bogarts look especially nice.

Can't help but feel they've been inspired by the MoC steelbooks with their classic artwork.

It seems quite a few of the discs are getting shortchanged on the extras though. They're only one disc sets after all. Judging by the fact that there is no "Night at the Movies" on the Casablanca one, I'm a bit worried we're just getting the old disc repackaged.

Do we know for definite that this has the newer 4K scan from the US 70th Anniversary release? That disc also had the 'Michael Curtiz: The Greatest Director You Never Heard Of' and 'Casablanca: An Unlikely Classic' documentaries on, whereas the specs for the above issue match those from the original UK blu. I hope it is the updated transfer, but this could just turn out to be the old UK blu in a steelbook package.

You wouldn't expect that for 12 quid, though. All of the extras relevant to the feature film were on the first disc in the Casablanca set. Disc 2 contained docs pertaining to Warner Bros and Jack Warner, including the nearly 5-hour WB story. Disc 3 was Disc 1 as a DVD. GWTW was a little different due to the length of the film. The UK steelbook duplicates Disc 1 in the set. Disc 2 contains all the film and cast relevant extras, while Disc 3 is a SD DVD containing the 6-hour MGM: When the Lion Roars. Seems to be asking a lot to get all that for £12.59 plus free UK shipping, but you likely don't agree.

You can pick up most of these multi-disk Warners that we are talking about here for £7-9 - if not less - a lot of the time in the UK, including Ben-Hur and Gone with the Wind, so why would it be unrealistic? We just don't tend to get the second/third/fourth disc with the non-film specific stuff.

I'm probably dense, but I though you were referring specifically to the second/third/fourth disc stuff in the more elaborate sets and seemed disappointed that those extras weren't part of the package Certainly the same one-discer in a standard BD case will be less expensive than the steelbook. It's just when you consider the premium packaging and the collectability factor (which seems to be greater in the UK than the US), prices seem pretty fair for what's included.

I was more talking about the likes of Ben-Hur, which I've still never got around to buying. You end up with a stupid situation otherwise where one release has the nice packaging and the other has all the extras, which is damn awkward.

OK, now I get it. I bought the SD version of Been Had to get the Fred Niblo 1925 silent. When the BD package was issued and they left the Niblo version SD, I cannabalized the package for that version and dumped the rest. Life is too short to spend almost four hours with Moses emoting, regardless of the resolution.

There seems to be a fair bit of conflicting talk around the Internet (including the photo on Amazon) as to whether The Jazz Singer blu is the same as the big set for it or just one of the discs. Has anyone actually gotten/reviewed it to say one way or the other?

I'm pretty sure both the US digibook and UK steelbook contain only the first disc of the original plus the The Dawn of Sound: How Movies Learned to Talk documentary from disc 2. At least according to the extras listed at Blu-ray.com that seems to be the case (and I think the same info was posted here).
