If only this could be the progression of anger in the face of the Earth as they still yet to release the World Cinema Foundation films.

Two Things:

First: I really doubt that the clue this month is for Mad World. Remember a few months ago during the Wexner chat when Criterion said that they could have released Silence of the Lambs again but chose not to, as there was already a more than suitable Blu-Ray release? Same would apply for Mad World.

I would assume that the four earths in the picture progressively becoming more angry is significant for something, although I haven't the slightest idea. Will be interesting to see what comes to fruition.

Second: Didn't anyone else notice that the newsletter advertises a new 35mm restoration of L'Avventura? Shouldn't this mean a Blu-Ray release is imminent?

Maybe the Earth is angry because dvd companies just doesn't know what that area is under it's mouth.

Why don't you go enjoy one of the other 700 released in the Criterion, Eclipse, Essential Art House, and Merchant Ivory collections. Although I guess crying on a message board about one film you happen to dislike and will never be forced to buy is a more productive use of your time.

Speaking of Merchant Ivory the following is from Criterion's Facebook page:

"All the films in our Merchant Ivory collection, plus our Criterion releases of HOWARDS END (pictured), are going out of print.
We’re selling them through the end of June".

Can anyone twist it to mean Gone to Earth? Sadly, I can't.

When I first saw the clue, I was thinking "four + earth = fourth or forth" and I tried to think of something Criterion worthy with either of those words. But yeah, "Mad Mad Mad Mad World" makes the most sense.

iirc, there is still work to be done on IAMMMMW, restoration of the roadshow version, at least.

Hooray! My absolute most anticipated/desired Criterion acquisition EVER. I am overjoyed. I knew it was coming but had been lead to believe from my source that it could be years in the making. Nice to see it's coming faster than we thought!!!

I can only hope Jimmy Dean and McCabe follow soon!

Great news (although I myself still haven't seen Nashville). Something tells me this clue and future release may make up for last newsletter's reveal of It's a Mad (x4) World.

absolutely. incredible clue, even if we knew what it was just by looking at it

considering this was in my "top 5 most wanted in the collection", I will be celebrating by reducing my old DVD to a coaster upon announcement. definitely makes up for Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

If they tried even a little there's no reason this couldn't be a bursting two disc set. Can't wait to see and HEAR this one on Blu-ray! Maybe they could make it a three disc set with a copy of the CD soundtrack

LOL. Definitely have our new Border Radio. Excited for Nashville too, but not as much as the amazing wonderful clue we had last month of course
