Lolz at the Borders banner ad showing up. At least they're still paying Google as they liquidate.

For a little while way back when they gave you a small percentage of what you spent there back as store credit during the holidays. (Much more than the $5 for every $50 that they currently offer, and with a high upper limit.) One year (I think my freshman year in high school, pre-debit card -- explains a lot) I spent so much there that I picked up the Antoine Doinel set for free, with store credit left over. (Granted, in combination with a 30 percent off coupon.) So at least for a brief period they rewarded the people that were dumb enough to drop large amounts of $$$ on their overpriced, understocked DVD inventory. Now it's been years since I've bought a DVD there.

A friend of mine spent many hours visiting with, interviewing, chatting about this and that and looking over private sketches and a wealth of other personal items with Lucien Freud for his A-Level dissertation. He was apparently an incredibly generous and friendly guy to be around, particularly in regard to giving up an enormous amount of free time to a 17 year old art student for no personal gain or compensation.

Well, fuck, there goes a piece of mine, too. Just another reminder of how junky Saturday Night of the Movies has become in recent years, too. It's pretty much all indy films from the last decade that I have no interest in watching or rewatching.

She was a legitimately talented musician. Too bad she was too caught up playing the rock star to actually be one.

Addiction is ridiculous. As I've learned from my friend-because-I-listened-to-him-5-hours-a-day Artie Lange over the last few years, it is something that people, as a whole, really need to move beyond ridiculing and treat like a disease. It is really hard for me to blame someone for their own death because they tried something awful once and could never escape its clutches.
