With Disney dumping their overarching franchise efforts into streaming series, this would've been a good opportunity to start enticing notable auteurs to produce standalone movies in the Star Wars universe. Unlike Star Trek or even Marvel, Star Wars came directly out of the auteurist movie-brat 70s and has been defined by a tightly controlled auteurist vision. That Disney had the makings of that, indeed had hired someone who would've been the most talented director to ever helm a Star Wars film by an enormous margin and who has experience with genre cinema, including sci-fi, and then just chose no movies instead, is staggering incompetence. And it's sad because this would've given Soderbergh back so much of the Hollywood clout he's lost over the last decade. Imagine the opportunities this would've opened for him.

According to Twitter, Disney has now allegedly blocked fans from purchasing a billboard to advocate for the film (even though similar efforts like “Release the Snyder cut” were not blocked). Sounds like there is a personal vendetta Iger has against this project

How can Disney do that? Wouldn't that be an independent business deal between the buyer and the independent billboard owner?

The owner said something like they can’t approve billboards that reference franchises, despite previously approving billboards that did that, so there was an implication they were told to deny it after the fans made their plans known. I can’t find the tweet now though

You don't have to. I've read your posts for decades. I believe you. I hate this timeline.
