Now I'm morbidly curious to watch it. Will add it to my watchlist alongside the Norman Mailer Eclipse set.

My main memory of Gangster Squad was as "film at the bottom of my Netflix queue" from 2013-2023

Did you watch it in 2024?

I did manage to scrape the bottom of my Netflix queue before they stopped shipping discs last year, but this did not add anything to my mental impression of Gangster Squad

Let's face it, whatever it is is not going to be as cool as Paramount dating I Love Lucy The Entire Series for Nov 5 (someone at Paramount clearly figured one half of the country is going to need some comfort viewing post-election night!).

I just came across this screenshot from Gangster Squad, so I wouldn't actually be surprised if the clue was for it:

It's also just occurred to me that this is the most that anyone has talked about Gangster Squad since its release.

Looks like it will be a UK only release, as the U.S. release is coming from Shout

Gonna guess The Great Escape 4K will be a UK title, since it's a tradition to watch it around Christmastime over here for some reason (I actually Googled if this wasn't just me and all I could find was that it was a 'loose tradition'). I will pre-order it right away as I actually have an itch to watch it again, and would be nice to finally own a decent copy.

Really excited for The Dollars Trilogy the most but prepared to wait a little while for them to get that right. Who am I kidding, I will pre-order it in the blink of an eye whether it's ready or not.

Demolition Man, The Gift and The Cell pique my interest, but not sure I'll actually pre-order them immediately. Perhaps the Raimi due to my love for him as a director, but I very nearly bought Demolition Man from HMV in the past month or so and didn't, so not in a huge hurry to pay 6/7/8 times that for the same film. Might have jumped if it was Cobra or Tango & Cash though (still think they will release the former soon).

The blu-ray looks so good already but always nice to see a little film like this get prioritized

I wonder what has stopped Arrow from picking up Ferrara's The Funeral, since presumably his titles sell well

The Funeral would be an instant purchase whether its BD or 4K.

Last Stop in Yuma County is not announced again which makes me wonder if Arrow are doing a 4K since they're now effectively the last English language label releasing the film, with US and Australian editions out now through WellGoUSA and Umbrella.

Nice, when was that confirmed? I feel like it was mentioned at some point but I forget when/where. I'd assume they'll do 4K for most things where possible now, especially if it has cult appeal of any kind.

Confirmed back in May by Arrow

I agree. Even with all the recent Abel Ferrara releases, this one still languishes in obscurity. It’s my favorite of that hot ‘90s run he had.

It’s with a major studio (Universal), so it is baffling that Kino or another label hasn’t put it out yet

Interesting tweet from James Flower:
In other Arrow-related news, I have begun writing the narration for the spiritual sequel to The Final Game of Death, including a day’s research at the BFI library today. It’s not Bruce Lee/HK cinema-related but in much the same vein otherwise… hopefully coming soon-ish!
Sounds like it's a documentary for a film that had a lot of unfinished footage. I've seen it be suggested that it's for The Keep.

Except Vinegar Syndrome has The Keep and it is a Paramount title, so no chance of a UK release.

and people on the other forum strangely suggest he'd be doing a doc for VS, when he literally opens the tweet with "in other Arrow-related news". plus I'm sure Mann would shoot down such an endeavor

I mean there's numerous movies I'd love to see Flower do this for - The Magnificent Ambersons, Being Human (though I'd really love it to be this!), etc but I can't think of anything within Arrow's reach that comes to mind. he does say the BFI library, though it doesn't necessarily mean it's a British film. hopefully we don't have to wait too long...

Brainstorm maybe? I don't know enough about how much changed after Natalie Wood's death and if it would be enough to be a "spiritual sequel to The Final Game of Death."

Other remote possibilities, one of the troubled Terry Gilliam productions: The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, or The Brothers Grimm.

There was a fan-produced documentary on The Keep in production called A WWII Fairy Tale, and I wonder if that material might be incorporated

I really hope it’s James Bridges’ Mike’s Murder, which fortunately does have at least one surviving print of its radically different original iteration that was completely rejected by test audiences
